are cowfish bad to have, are they reef safe?

I think it is rare that they release their toxin. I have seen proof of other tanks that were established and had many fish in addition to the cowsfish. the cowfish did not make it. The livestock in the tank was fine. Do a search on cowfish and you can see what some of their owners experience...

    Birdsnest turning light pink

Thanks Daniel! I found something on ---- that was a good price, don't know if it works or not, but it said it is a growth light or something like that. Would it be worth a try since it is pretty affordable? *edited*

    Birdsnest turning light pink

also... MH? Where would I start? I know NOTHING about lighting. Do I need a ballast? What is a good example of exactly what I need? How much (say I want all good corals, clams, etc) total watts? Can I use them with all the lighting I have now? I dont seem to have any more room. I have...

    Birdsnest turning light pink

When I purchased my birdnest-frag it was a nice, bright pink. The tips were white, but now it is getting much lighter. I feed with photoplankton every other week, and it is sort of middle-top of my tank. I have four 36" 96watt bulbs in my 40 gallon tank. Is it too much light? I thought they...

    Angels vs. coral - help

My Lemonpeel is like a cow. He grazes on EVERYTHING! Lemonpeels are very curious and will nip at everything! I had mushrooms and ricordea. They are gone, except one mushroom that made his way under the rocks. It doesnt matter how much you feed him, it is natural for him to nip all day long...

Detrius and best choice for cleaning

I was under the impression that both detrius and diatoms are both animal matter, and thought about the Blenny and it is just an algae eater, right? Diatoms are most likely what I have, well I haev both, but Birdy is correct that the diatoms are more prevalent. I have two powerheads in my tank...

Detrius and best choice for cleaning

At first Iliked my goby, but he makes a serious mess!! I just keep him now because my dwarf angel loves to chase him around the tank. I think those dragon gobys have a tendency to be picked-on easily for some reason. Maybe I will see if my LFS will trade him. I will go for the lawnmower...

Detrius and best choice for cleaning

I have crushed coral in my tank. I mainly get detrius on my LR. I have a goby that sifts through my CC day and night and does pretty well. What are my options for a cleanup crew to eliminate most of the detrius on the rocks? I have little to no algae and just a few astrea snails and two mex...

    Box Fish/ Cow fish

I may be wrong, but I had a supply catalog that sold protective-covers for the powerheads, so fish would not get sucked-in. Anyway, just a thought, in case you are worried about the powerheads.

    Yellow Tang . . . ANIMAL CRUELTY ?

I know it's a bummer to want a fish and not have enough room. I want this yellow puffer at my LFS, but I think I need a couple hundred gallon tank to get it :( I wonder how many gallons my bathtub holds? (just kidding) I bought my 40 gallon from someone that had two percs and a yellow tang in...

    corals

Go with low-light corals. Mushrooms are cool and easy and Ricordea too for starters. I keep my lights on a timer. My halide is on from 9am-9pm. Paula

    Calupera in Phoenix area?

I'll be surprised if I get a response to this: My Lemonpeel Angel is having Macro-algae withdrawls and he needs something bad! I have called every LFS in AZ and noone has any.. If anyone has any they they need to get rid of, please let me know. Thanks! Paula

    Has anyone gone sexual??

I go through lots of calupera that my Lemonpeel Angel eats. I dont have a refugium so I just put what my LFS gives me directly in my tank. I was worried once becuase I noticed lots of clear, mushy leaves when I received one batch, but at the time I had no idea that was bad and my lemonpeel...

    Have bulbs, will they work??

One of the bulbs in my 50/50 is a blue actinic. I guess I will be sort of experimenting for now with my few couple corals until I understand lighting more. Right now, my mushroom is already looking better, but maybe it is becuase my lemonpeel is finally leaving it alone... Thanks!
