    First corals

My frogspawn has been very hardy and grown steadily. I do not know the exact light requirements for them, but I have about 6 watts/gal in my tank. I would also recommened pulsing xenia; i think they are really cool, and they grow VERY fast (sometimes a nuisance).

    feeding mandarin goby

I have a kept a spotted mandarin in my 15g for several months now. He is the only type fish i have, though, that feds on pods . When i was deciding on him, my lfs told me about cyclop-eeze. They began carrying it beacuse people wanted to keep mandarins, and not see them slowly starve. I...

    Plants

WBilton, I just placed some fauchae sp. in my refugium. it looks great ( a nice maroon color now, but suppose to lighten to red), imo. I chose this type macro because it is not supposed to go sexual, as caulerpa has been reported to do. I also have a mangrove on the way, but i think that will...

    serpent star ate 2 fish

aquarium keepers PAY for the inhabitants in their tanks. the inhabitants aren't pest, as the ones you described (rats, ants, etc.). when pests do show up in the tank (bristle worms, aptasia, etc.) they are removed. however we do not VOLUNTARILY PURCHASE these pests. Also about the "yank...

    Anti-siphon Hole for return

I could be mistaken, but I believe I have seen these holes drilled above the water line, like at where the return line "ells" over into the tank. would this work?

    Anti-siphon Hole for return

My return elbow goes under the waterlevel in my main tank. It goes to far down in to my display thus causing a small flood from my refugium when the power goes out. This is a DIY set-up, and I have heard of a hole being drilled somewhere in the vicinity of the return line @ where it goes over...

    cont. siphon overflow box

If you are talking about a regular overflow, mine works great. I use it to feed my refugium. Even if the power goes out, and it quits overflowing, the water in both the outside and inside containers maintain the siphon thru the u-tube.

bad or good idea for refugium

cow, I bought a sheet of acrylic from Home Depot for my baffles, and cut it myself with the tool suggested for it. As for the flow, it should be low so as not to disturb the sand, macroalgae, etc. I only used 1 baffle to divide my return pump (MaxiJet 1200) and water in from overflow section...

    5g refugium

Ok, if I use the u tube and get it siphoning, what size powerhead should I look at getting for the fuge? I know it should be equal or more than the rate of water coming into the fuge. I suppose i could actually time how long to takes for the u tube to siphon water into the fuge. Does this...

    5g refugium

I could use some advice for setting up a 5g rect. glass aquarium as a 'fuge for my 15g-tall nano tank. I want this fuge to sit beside my display, so I do not think any type gravity feed or gravity return will work. (I don't know for sure though). I was thinking of putting a powerhead in the...

    phosphates

I dont' claim to be an expert at anyhting, but after reading this entire post (b/c of my hair algae problem), i have a thought on the 10% water change statement by beaslbob. **If tap water has phosphates, and you replace your tank water with tap (as bob says he does) in any amount, 10% or...

    Maxi-Jets and Moon-Lites

Yes i was mistaken on that rotating feature. How abou those moon-lites, though?

    Maxi-Jets and Moon-Lites

Can someone tell me if the Maxijets rotating feature can be deactivated? I am in need of a powerhead, but I don't have enough foom for one to rotate. (Where i am goign to put it) I want to go with a 900 for my 15g tall. Anyone suggestions or is this a good choice? Also does these moon-lite...

    Reefers in Mongtomery Alabama

I live in Montogmery. I am new to the board also, and I just started my first marine set-up about a month ago. It is going good, since the cycle has ended.

    Started Out All Wrong!!

Thanks for you help everyone!!! My sandbed is about 2-3" deep, and I want to have several types of coral in here. I have been testing the water (I did use de-chlorinated tap water) with a test kit, but the kit has a color chart with mg/L markings at each color. I have been testing the ammonia...

    Started Out All Wrong!!

Hi, I just set-up my 15 gal. SW tank a week ago. I used 11 lbs of LR and LS, and with the advice of the LFS i added 3 fish, 4 snails, a starfish, a cleaner shrimp, and some hermit crabs to the tank on the SECOND DAY after the tank had cleared. Also a few days later i added a feather duster and...
