how can I lower my Nitrates

Clams will bring your Nitrates down. If you have the lighting to support them, I would suggest adding a few. They take in and process Nitrates.

It is a Hamilton Ballast, and they are Metal Halide bulbs. I also have 2 T12 VHO 50/50 to cut the yellow. I looked for a code, but could not find one on either.

    Time for new lights...suggestions?

I have been running MH bulbs for 1 year now, and the time has come to upgrade. When I got my tank, I did not get the MH bulbs I should have, but the 6500K bulbs I have had for this last year have done me well in the meantime........but that was then, this is now, and I want to go 10,000K. I...

    Top off product

I just bought a top off gadget called a Tsunami AT1 for my tank. It has a meter that measures the water in your sump. If the level falls below 1'', it turns on a powerhead I will attach to a container of DI and fill my sump back to where it is supposed to be. Anyone have one of these, or...

I had similiar troubles, but: I did move to low flow area kept tip clean, and away from bubbles and stopped using AC kit because the electrical interference makes it jump around use 9 volt batteries, and only turn the unit on when you wish to see what the salinity is, then turn the unit off. Moving my clam in my tank

looking to make some room, but I see what you're saying. Plus, he is on his side, and my other clam is upright, and easier to look at.

    salinity monitor

Conductivity. The salinity monitor is the one on the far left of the picture. If it read say, 50.1, that would be equal toi 1.024, if you know what I'm saying. That reading of 49.3 is low, but that photot is old and fuzzy as you can see

Moving my clam in my tank

I want to move my clam up off the substrate, about 2 inches, onto a flat piece of LR. My LFS says this is fine to do as long as he has room to turn 360 degrees, and has room to open up all the way. He would have all of this, but I don't want to rip his foot when taking him off the sand. when...

I know you've heard it before, but yeah, they are great. Go to american marineusa.com and they can hook you up. The owner is very helpful, and you will thank yourself later for doing it. Here is a pic of my 3 (PH, Salinity, Temp) a bit fuzzy, I know.

    Cleaner Shrimp....

Add one more to the list in support of the 5 gallon bucket. As a side question: How many of you are using some form of aeration while acclim? I have been using a small battery powered air stone the size of a ping pong ball that clips to my bucket as the drips enter. Been doing it for a year...

    CYCLOPEZZE question

I am currently using coral plankton, and Bio-plankton, but have been seeing a lot of mention of Cyclopezze as of late. Picked some up with the understanding that my fish eat it as food, but it has side benefits for my corals and anems? That true? and if so, how often are you dosing it? My...

My 125 Gallon reef RED ALGAE

When it comes to red slime and dosing your tank, I am a fan, but I know some will disagree with dosing altogether. I have had Red slime, and I dosed with RED Slime remover----yellow powder you add to your tank, then cycle out in a week with a water change. It killed all the red slime, never...

mud or normal sand for refugium?

Let me say first that I respect all those who have replied above me.........with extra props to NM reef. I had the same decision to make about 6 months ago, and I went with mud. Yeah, it is expensive....like $70 a bag to take care of my 40 gal fuge, but I have had zero problems with it so far...

Yikes.....I have 3 cleaner shrimp in addition to the camels...I bought the camels way back in the day to get rid of my aptasia. They did a great job in their assinged task....now I just wish the cleaners weren't in there at the moment, otherwise, I'd hire the flame to bump off my camel's...

    Camelback question

How can I get rid of my camelback???....he is one of two in the tank, and I almost never see them as it is. It seems like the only time I do is at feeding time when they come out to try and steal silver sides from the 2 anemones.

    Camelback question

I sat and watched my camelback shrimp slink out from behind a rock above my new long tentacle anemone. He moves in on him, and proceeds to grabbing the anem's tentacles and pulling them to the point of ripping holes in them. The torn tentacle then shrivles up and he moves on to the next...

HELP: Think coral beauty attacky my scooter

The scooter and lawnmower can co-exist. Best to have plenty of space for both to cruise though. Two lawnmowers can't, two scotters can't (minus pair) but one of each, (IMO) are cool.
