    Green Star Polyp

Thanks for the replies! I have been trying to frag/sell to the only LFS that is interested, but my timing seems to terrible. We live in the sticks so i have to drive over 100 miles to get there so I always call first to see if they want it. Every time I call they "just got a new shipment" and...

    Cycling

Here is some general information from my experience with salt water tanks - hope it helps.... Cycling You will know that your cycle has started when the ammonia starts to rise. This will cause "good" bacteria to start to grow in your rocks/filtration system which will convert this ammonia to...

can you keep any 2 angels?

We put a flame and coral beauty in our 250 at the same time and not had any problems at all. BUT it is a 250 gallon tank with 200lbs of rock and we put them in at the same time. 2 months later we added a 1 year old Koran Angel from another tank we were taking down and they all seem happy 1 year...

Xenia taking over my tank! Help!

Thanks for all the responses! To answer some questions, Yes I meant 2x250w MH lighting. No I won't be shipping any Xenia to anyone, just don't have time to deal with it. The nearest LFS to sell frags to is 100 miles away, we don't go very often. I do have a small bucket in the water with 5...

Xenia taking over my tank! Help!

I have been fragging them, the problem is that they spread onto the frag instead of moving onto the frag leaving the original stock on the original rock. I have tried slicing them off the rocks at the base, they seem to grow back and keep spreading. Thanks for the response!

Xenia taking over my tank! Help!

I have pulsing xenia taking over my tank! I have been able to "thin the herd" by removing any smaller rocks and putting them in a bucket of saltwater with a powerhead and leaving them overnight in the garage. The temperature drop kills the xenia and doesn't seem to bother anything else growing...

    Sand vs. CC

I had a reef with CC for 2 years, if CC is maintained properly it will work just takes more work. You have to vacumm it weekly to keep the detrious from building up and adding nitrates to your system. Sand you basically sit back and watch it become alive and do the work for you. I.E. it becomes...

More hard coral formations! Plain luck on getting this shot with the almost perfect reflection! This Humu-Humu Trigger was about 12" long and very cool! If you look close, there are 2 baby Puffers hanging around this rock! The last shot was a mix of fish I discovered when a wave pushed...

Just got back from Maui and thought I would post some photos of what we saw while snorkling! Enjoy! These are some of the hard coral formations we saw while out early when the tide was low. It is hard to really get an idea of the size. One was as big as a Volkswagon Bug!

    White Residue

Most likely just Calcium residue from your sand, assuming you used aragonite sand and not silica play sand. Won't hurt anything, just wipe it down. Good luck.

    Mixing salt solution

I had one batch of IO do that to me. I have been using IO for 2 years, one bad batch. After mixing for 24 hours, it was cloudy. I decided to check CA and ALK levels before putting it into my tank. The CA was 350 (normal for IO) but the ALK was at 18dKH :scared: :scared: I mixed up 50...
