    PH and Ick

You need to check out Beth's FAQ at the top of this forum...I've followed is for the last month with 4 of my fish with excellent results. Your LFS advisor sounds uninformed, at best. Good luck.

Is this a disease or an accident?

This has happened to my coral beauty 2 or 3 times...it always heals up fine. When it happened the first time, I improved the nutrition of the food I was feeding. I'm wondering if my CBS sneaks around at night and pinches my fish? Good luck.

arrgh...ICH...please tell me I have a good plan

I'm pretty sure my fish have ICH. My 55 gal tank has been set up and running since 9/04. Last fish were added 11/04 (except I added two clowns today before spotting the spots--I know...I'm an idiot). Anyway, the only thing that's been added since November is 1.8 pounds of live rock and 5...

    puffer problem

Hi Beth- I'm not feeding the puffer hard shelled foods. He eats Mysis and brind shrimp. Could you suggest a better food? The "bruise" appeared overnight and I noticed it on the 31st. It remained unchanged until today when it is noticably less red. I've spent A LOT of time just watching--no...

    puffer problem

It seems to be a happy new year for all except my Valentini Puffer. He's developed a red patch near his mouth which I noticed on the 31st. This patch appears to be a bruise (for lack of a better word) under the skin. He's in a tank with a yellow tang, coral beauty, 2 damsals, and a CBS, and...

    help--fin rot?

Thanks for your help, Beth. My coral beauty's fin is looking MUCH better--especially yesterday and today...it looks like it's growing back. I did as you suggested and added vitamins to the food, and improved their diet with a new food. You're so great to answer everyone's questions! Take care.

    help--fin rot?

Hi Beth- No spines--it just looks like the fin has eroded and a "V" has formed where there use to be continuous fin. Water readings: pH: 8.2 Ammonia: 0 Nitrate: 0 Nitrite: 0 Temp: 77 specific gravity:1.022 The other fish are normal in appearance and behavior. Food: mysis and brine, both...

    help--fin rot?

I have a coral beauty. Yesterday I noticed that along the dorsal fin, about 1 cm before the tail fin starts, the fin looks to have rotted away and so now the fish has one longer dorsal and then a smaller one before the tail fin begins. Nothing new has been added to the tank for almost a month...

    lighting

I'd appreciate a quick primer on reef lighting...I've been reading the posts and don't know what the abbreviations mean. Somewhere on the web to go read would be fine, also. Thanks!

    ideas for next fish/invert

Thanks Clarkii and Dacia for help. I'll go with more inverts and keep a close eye on the puffer...I don't want him chomping my shrimp... Happy holidays.

    ideas for next fish/invert

Thanks for the good advice. What do you mean about the puffer destroying the tank? Right now, he's the most docile of the 5 fish in there. Thanks!

    ideas for next fish/invert

I'd like some advice about what to add to my 4-month-old 55 gallon tank next. I'd like to keep it reef safe, although my lighting isn't appropriate for corals yet. I have: 30 lbs live rock 1 yellow tang 1 coral beauty 2 damsals 1 valentino puffer 1 coral banded shrimp 2 bumble bee snails

    fish food question

SWF says my yellow tang is a herbivore. It is OK to feed him frozen brine shrimp & mysis?
