    lighting question

I bough a used set up with a 250w custom sealife metal halide ballast. there is no information on the ballast or the bulb and I don't know what type of bulb I need. Of course custom sealife is out of business. How would I know what type of bulbs would work in my set up?

    Brooklynella hostilis

Thanks Snipe for the response. What I meant by the question though was, if the fish had the disease (which I believe that they did) do I need to wait x amount of days so that there are no hosts in the tank. I have read some conflicting articles but I understand that this parasite can not live...

    Brooklynella hostilis

My ammonia was reading 0.25, my nitrite was 0, and nitrate was 5.0. The tank is a month old. It is a small tank , 15 gallon eclipse, with about 12lbs of live rock. The only thing that shared the tank with the clowns were 2 nassarius snails. The fish displayed all of the symptoms of...

    PH & Alkalinity

I could be way off here but can't trace elements used for enhanced algae growth throw your PH and Alkalinity out of whack? It seems to me that I read that when investing what supplements to use.

    Whats the next step

The decaying shrimp will put ammonia into your tank. It is a method of cycling without harming any fish.

    Caroline algea ?

Thanks that is great advice Pontius. That would certainly save a lot of money on buying all premium rock for the tank.

    Caroline algea ?

I know that there are a lot of factors but generally, does it take a long time to grow algae on dead rock? Months, Years? I read some good articles on the Garf.org page about designing your own rock and growing the coraline algae on it but that seems like it would take a long time.
