    Moving a dsb.

I plan on upgrading my 135g to a 200g. I currently have a 5" sand bed. The sand bed was established about 1.5 yrs ago. Any suggestions on moving my existing sand bed to the 200g. I have read that the top 2" of sand should be separated while the bottom 3" should be placed in and the bottom layer...

    # of Zebrasomas for a 200g.

A quickie. A purple, black longnose, and sailfin tang along with a kole and convict tang in a 200g reef. Are the tang police going to be after me, or is this posible? Would three Zebrasomas of different species be possible, or should this be left in the dream realm only? Just researching now...

To go plexiglass or not, input please.

I am planning on upgrading my 135 to a 200 gallon. I am considering a plexiglass aquarium. Are they really worth it? I would like to hear from plexiglass tank owners. My concern is the scratching. Would I be forever cursing the scratches that just seem to appear (out of regular usage of a mag...

Anyone have mollies in their sw set-up?

I know some people use mollies to cycle their tank. Believe it or not, I am actually wanting mollies as a permenent feature in my set up. In particular, I would like to incorporate 5 or 6 of the silver/white balloon mollies. I think their coloration would add an amazing contrast to my existing...

    Cleaner shrimp and ick.

I understand that cleaner shrimp clean/eat ick protozoans off the body of fish. Do they eat the protozoans that end up on live rock or a sand bed? If so, would not an aquarium well stocked in cleaner shrimp be a definite preventative against ick?

    Multiplying Hermits???

About three months ago I added about 40 South American red leg hermit crabs for my 135g reef. They were all small. Quite a few have grown considerably since. They happily accepted new and larger shells that I placed in the tank. Some hermits are still small. In fact they seem smaller then when I...

    Berlin Hang-On Skimmer owners.

Hey there, I have a berlin hang-on that is run by a mag 500 pump. I find it to be too weak for my 135g tank. I am curious as to the strongest pump I can use on this skimmer. A mag 700 or 900? I would like to know what your experiences are. I am not interested in Rio pumsp. I experienced the...

? About Pump size & Skimmer.

I have a Berlin Hang on Skimmer for my 135 set-up. The skimmer is powered by a Mag 500. I believe that is too weak. Any suggestions on a stroger pump that is suitable for the Berlin Hang On? Mag 700 or 1200 even? Thanks, TT.

Ecosystem Filtration methods, just a fad?

I am noticing that ecosystem filtration medhods seem to be the rage now. It seems that just over a year ago everyone was on the dsb wagon. Threads kept poping up on the subject. Now I am noticing a similar trend with eco filters and in particular miracle mud. So what's going on? Is the dsb no...

    Hair algae & toxin release.

I have been having a problem with shrinking mushroom anenomes for the past two months. Lighting and water parameters are fine (within norm) yet the relatively hardy and undemanding shroom is not flourishing in my system (polyps are doing fine). I recently have been battling a hair algae...

    Healing time for frags.

I fraged a colt yesterday. It was simply getting too large. I divided the coral into five pieces. I attached them to pieces of live rock. They are held in place by elastic bands. I am curious to know the lenght of time before the frags heal and take to their new base. Anything I should do to...

    Colt gone limp.

For the past four days my colt coral has been in a collapsed mode. All other corals in my system are doing fine: shrooms, leathers, bubble, and xenias. Water parameters are also fine. Lighting is comprised of power compacts. I know that colts do not like strong lighting, however, I have had this...

    Belligerent Sailfin.

I introduced a 4" blue hamlet into my 135g system today. The smaller sailfin tang is extremely aggressive towards it. Is this simply a tang being a tang and doing the pecking order thing, or do I have a problem on my hands? Anyone experience similar behaviours with tangs? I thought the hamlet...

    Moon Coral, favites.

Would this interesting coral be able to be in a set-up that only has pc lighting? I understand that it is rated good for beginners, hence easy. Any other suggestion on hard corals that are easy and would be happy under pc's would be appreciated. Thanks, TT.

    Bright Green Shrooms from Bali!

Is there a trick to having these guys flourish? Most mushrooms are a cinch to cultivate; however the green beauties from Bali seem to give me a bit of a challenge. Anyone else have these, and do you treat them any differently from other shrooms?

    Xenias, Easy or Difficult?

Just read info about xenias on salwaterfish's coral section. It mentions that pulsating xenias are one of the more difficult corals to keep. I always thought that they were easy. Infact people often refer to them as being weedy in a set-up. Could someone clarify this for me? What are their...
