I have a cannister filter (Cascade 1500) and am not quite sure what all to put in it. I know i can put floss in it to help filter but can I put a lot of play sand in nylon and lay that on each of the shelves in the filter?

Ok, I just got some sand that says "for fish bowls and aquariums" but on the back it says that it contains 0.1% silicates. Is this ok for fish or will the small ammount of silica harm my fish?

Ok, I finally found some play sand but it isn't made by any of the secified companies from earlier posts. It says directly on the package "for fish bowl and aquarium use" but it contains 0.1% silicates. Is this ok or will it harm the tank? Thanks.

OK, no laughing here but I had to ask. Can I get a 60lb bag of sand from a local home imprivement store and then put LS over the top of it to seed it or does it have to be marine sand whether it is alive or dead? Thanks for the help.
