well i stuck him on top of my live rock maybe he'll find a hole to burrow in..... should i throw away his old tube?

Ive had my feather duster for about 2 months. 2 weeks ago he threw his crown. Now today he is completely out of his tube. I moved it and its still alive on the bottom of my tank..... does anyone know whats happening or what i should do??????
