Slothy, This is not the same article I read, but it discusses the same issues. http://www.win-water.org/win_news/012302caarticle.html

Who uses/ has an RO system... who uses tap water? BE HONEST

Slightly off the subject of fish, but related to public water supplies, I recently read that lower conception rates in the last 20+ years are partially due to excess birth control medication in the public water supply. Only about 20% of the birth control medication is ingested into womens'...

    Tomato Clown Compatability w/Tomato Clown

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry it took me so long to read them over. I will probably not attempt a 2d Tomato. NewFishLINY, the pump sections do flow into one another starting with the skimmer end. I have a 15w plant/fish flo over the sump and it has worked fine. My caulerpa has not grown...

    Tomato Clown Compatability w/Tomato Clown

I have one mature/large Tomato Clown and I am looking for tank mate(s). I am tired of Grn. Chromis. Please see my tank desc. that should be below. The Tank is very well established and could handle a much greater bio-load. Please reply if you have added a smaller Tomato to the tank of an...

    ALGAE QUESTIONS

I clean my glass every week. Did this tank cycle before putting in the tang? I presume you will get more LR later. My Clown likes to swin in and around the LR in my tank.

    Creating DSB

Tyrfing, Susiepan has the right idea. Beware though that SD sand is very fine and will create long-lasting clouds. Look up old posts re changing CC to LS, they often had good ideas for adding LS in an already stocked tank.

    Sump Question

Check out my link below. I have a sump very similar to what you describe except I added some LR rubble to the sump as well. It has worked very well over the last year.

    Live sand

Unless you see the Goby eating now, and I doubt you would, you should return it. There are allot of other cool fish that you could get.

    Where to buy Macro Algae?

I have been to the TFP and I agree with Fishfood. Their livestock is in scary shape. Their drygoods are very well priced though. My LFS occasionally gets caulerpa and thats where I bought mine. Caulerpa is very fragile and I would not want to buy it w/out seeing it first. If others have had...

NEW TANK HERE DESPERATE HELP PLEASE!

chainsaw5vent, Luckily I have had no real spillage problems. I do put down cardboard during water changes and use Murphy's Oil soap after I'm done. I love that stuff. Also, those pictures are roughly a year old and the tank and sump look much less pristine now. The floors still look fine though.

Dead shrinp for cycling - no amonia!

Mab, I cycled my tank with raw shrimp and it worked very well. If you want some more info I frequently updated a post titled "cyclying w/raw shrimp" as I cycled my tank. If you search under my #, 2057, the post started on 4/16/2001 and continued for a couple of weeks I think. Also, un-cured...

    Sand Question...

Fish for Life, Not all playsand will work in fishtanks. Most contain to many silicates. This is why your hear so much about "Southdown" playsand because it has been shown to be uniquely suited for marine tank use. Additionally, SD playsand costs only dollars per 50 or 100lb bag.

NEW TANK HERE DESPERATE HELP PLEASE!

briansreeftank19660426, If your tank is still near 5 weeks old it is not done cycling. Have you seen signs of nitrItes? You should run some searches on cycling to find out more specifics. Furthermore, LORDOFTHEREEF and rhomer are correct. You have way to much in that very very young tank. The...

Dead Coral.. will it turn into LR?

As Mr. Salty says, dead/bleached coral will become live. If you look at the older pictures of my tank you will see I started (mistakenly) with allot of this stuff, and a year+ later it is hard to tell it apart from all of the rock I purchased live. With good water conditions you should expect...

    Lawnmower blenny feeding?

Harvey Floyd, Do you have any LR? Lawn mower Blennies usually require allot of it as they eat the algae from the LR. My Lawnmower would eat flaked food and freeze dried brineshrimp when I fed everyone else. Mostly though he ate the algae from the LR. I also wonder about the snowflake/blenny...

    LR or LS

Adam & Jeanne, Just so you know a 2-3 inch sand bed will not be a DSB (Deep Sand Bed). A DSB requires 4-6 inches. The reason for the depth requirement is that the lowest layers of the sand must be without oxygen and it is in these layers that wastes are converted to inhert material...

    fish coming in with rock?

I had a Lawnmower Blenny come out of large piece of LR. As soon as the rock was submerged he poked his head out and began eating minutes later. He was large, probably 5 inches, and lived 7 very happy months. As far as I can tell he died of old age. These Blennies do live in very shallow water...

    lookdowns

They are totally awsome looking, and I looked into getting one or some a couple of months ago. I have yet to talk to someone who actually has kept these fish. As Von_Rahvin suggests they do need a large and long tank. However, they have been described to me as a peaceful fish so I am not sure...
