    Clown Fish as First Fish?

We have a big and little false percula pair, they swim everywhere together. They were the 2nd and 3rd fish we bought for the tank and are very happy and come to the top to say hi when we come up to the tank.

You will never guess what P**Co told me today!

So... as a side effect will that make the fish burp? My husband and I regularly find something wrong with the stuff at our p***o and never leave without a 40-60% discount. Got a 20g tall today for nearly nothing because there was a scratch. It'll be our new sump/refugium for the 46g...

My disagreement with Beth regarding copper treatment

For what it's worth, I would much rather hear both sides, without preferences, just facts. All I hear is people saying "Don't do ICH treatment copper is toxic" (but it's always worked for me), I've seen that people on these boards are partial to the hyposalinity treatment. If you do the copper...

Do i really need an overflow box?

drilling holes and sucking in air for a little while is way better than flooding your house. at least it'll stop your overflow and prevent more water from being pumped out of your tank (since the overflow has stopped) by the return pump. Melev of mel's reef suggests it and it has always worked...

A Little Help- New To SW Aquariums

I just set up a tank this week and here's what I did: Day 1, got and cleaned tank Day 2, added water and salt (this is the only time you can add salt directly to the tank) Day 3, tested salt - once it was to my liking, I added sand. Live sand is a great filter and will help kick start your...

    Newbie Questions!!!!!

First... just as a note... I only ever read the first few words of a post in all capital letters. It just hurts my eyes and is annoying. Now on to your filter... You don't need a filter if you have live rock and live sand. I actually use a simple power hang on back filter when cycling my tanks...

How To Make A Sump Or Refugium

Check out the DIY forum... I just posted a picture of how a sump/refugium works in a post called something like "DIY Refugium". A refugium is a place for plants to grow safely without fish eating them. They remove bad things from the water and create food for your tank. A sump is simply an extra...

    frshwater/saltwater change?

Probably a bad idea. Water from a freshwater tank has tons of happy little bacteria in it, when you add the salt to it those bacteria will die causing an ammonia spike. This'll probably cause your tank to re-cycle itself depending on how much water you change out - and a bacterial bloom...

Will my tank crash through the floor?

You can ask a contractor to come by and look at your floor/ceiling. Won't cost too much and he'll tell you if it'll hold things. Have it near a wall, corner would be more support, also go to your basement and see if you can find where the main support beams are, putting the tank on those would...

    Cleaner Shrimp Remove Ich?

I already read the Q&A, trust me I know how to treat ich and I do not do it in the main tank. I was just wondering about the shrimpy. I currently have mr. damsel in a hospital now, with a low dose of copper treatment which I'll work up to full over the next few days. My husband "rinsed" him last...

    bad case of ich problem

If you use both at once it'll likely stress the fish so bad it'll die. Pick one. And, do your treatments for at least 7-10 days AFTER your fish looks fine and healthy.

    Cleaner Shrimp Remove Ich?

Ok so, I got this little Domnio Damsel yesterday. He hid in my tank overnight and in the morning my husband noticed those dreaded little white spots. Hopefully they weren't in the stage where it infected the rest of my tank but I'm currently monitoring that. Anyhoo, the Damsel was removed and...

Do i really need an overflow box?

Yes, and all of these flooding issues can be addressed by drilling 2 holes in your piping about 1/2" below the water line both in the main tank and in the sump. That way water can only drain down to the holes before the pump just sucks in water. And think about it, bubbles in your tank are way...

Those of you who have a sump?

yah it uh totally doesn't matter. think about it, i know the protein skimmer cleans stuff but that clean water goes right back up to the main tank to be sent down and cleaned again. whichever is easier access for you. it's all the same water.

    My fish just sits there!

that's because you "just bought" him. give him a few days and he'll be fine. he might also just like chillin in the rocks.
