One more note. When I say refill after taking out 5-10 percent of your water, I mean refill without any salt. Just add some R/O water then test salinity. If its low, add a wee bit of salt and wait a few minutes for it to dissolve. Then, test again. Personally, Id shoot for 1.023. But 1.026 is...

set my tank up but have ?s

I agree Carshark, I didnt catch the salinity was 1.028. So, I guess you are looking at a slight water change. Take out say 5-10 percent of your tank water. Refill, test salinity, then go from there. I know it sucks, but thats the only way to get it back down! =[ Also, expanding on what carshark...

ahh you already mentioned the gallons. So I would say "yes" you can add a few crabs.

You shouldnt need additivies. There are certain fish stores that sell bacteria in a bag that suppesdly helps speed up the tank cycle. Ive never tried it so I cant comment on that. As far as the crabs go it depends on the size of your tank. In anything over 30 gallons I would say they SHOULD be...

You can hook up the other powerhead and be fine. As far as the not using "carbon" that is a personal preference and more likely then not used to speed up the cycle. I always cycle my tanks with a power filter using carbon. It takes longer but you dont get the nasty smell. I would do a 20 percent...

Generally, you should wait 6 weeks or so for your tank to cycle not a "few" days. Also, please dont cycle your tank with damsels. Use live rock or live sand instand.

By uncured to you mean live? If so, I recommend everyone cycle their tank that way. It sure beats the hell out of using damsels. As for the smell, Ive never noticed live rock to have a punget oder and I am crazy when it comes to things stinking.

Btw, when I mean dont fill your tank all the way I mean leave a few inches of gap between where the glass meets the black rubber at the top of your tank. The live rock wont make your water level go up drastically but it will make it go up quite a bit depending on how much you put in your tank...

R/O water stands for Reverse Osmosis. I recommend you dont get live sand. It is a waste of money man. Just get the non-live sand and put that in your tank. Then follow these easy steps 1. Put non-live sand in tank. I would use a two inch sea bed because DSB (Deep Sea Beds) have been known to...

hey guys thanks for the replies! I guess my biggest concern is the smell. The guy told me my tank will smell god awful if I dont have a canister filter. I cannot stand nasty smells. So, should i be worried?

I just got done buying some live rock. While at the LFS the kid told me I need a canister filter which sits outside the tank or it will start stinking really bad. Right now I have a 30g AquaClear hang on filter and 1 power jet... Was this guy feeding me a load of bs? Also, should I just leave...

noob questions, please dont laugh at me

I was chatting it up with an old friend about aquariums and jokingly mentioned I was interested in getting an eel to kill stuff in an aquarium. He told me that his 3 year old son recently dumped windex into his 30 gallon saltwater tank and killed everything. He offered to give it to me for free...
