    Sumps

you can go to Lowes or Tap plastics. They can cut plexiglass. You can custom design it any way you like to fit your needs. I made a sump with three baffles for about 45 dollars. You can also buy a premade glass tank and install baffles in with silicon.

    Sump Question

A sump is a tank or container that is added under the display tank. You'll need an overflow, which gravity/siphon feed and feeds the sump underneath. Then you'll need a return pump, which pumps the water back to the display tank. Just is one big circle. Inside the sump you'll need some...

    Plumming Help

    1) like I said before. Spend a little bit extra money and get the bigger pump. That way if the smaller pump isn't big enough. Then you'll have to buy the pump. Waste of money. Then put in check valve to tweek the flow. To keep up with the over flow. 2) your overflow will work. You don't...

    Plumming Help

Here you go. 1) I would go with something close to 900 gph and then place a shut off/ball valve between your pump and returns. I'm using a 975 gph and get about 675 at the return heads. I think you lose about 75 gph for every foot your trying to raise or push the water up. Usually on the...

    Plumming Help

I've got a 55RR and am pretty good with plumbing. I can help you out. Info needed: what size sump and design, what size bulkhead on your overflow which feeds the sump, how many returns do you want? Just an FYi, you will need at LEAST 10times turnover rate in a 55 gallon. Which means you need...

    How about this fuge design?

I built one just a little bit smaller for a 55 and was too small. I had to add an auxilary fuge and add it via bulk heads and clear tubing. Works great. The overall volume is 34 gallons You don't need all those walls in the center section of your sump. At the most you need is four...

    Is this enough?

I highly recommend adding a sump. I recently did it for my 55 TruVu and turned it into a reefready. I did this by adding an overflow and drilling the bottom corner behind the overflow and drilling the back and adding four returns. Made the sump myself out of plexiglass and end up to be about...

    Sump?

I've got a 55 RR, that has a 30 gallon sump. I built the sump myself for about 50 bucks. Just as Sign guy said, it adds volume to the system and you can hide all your equipment down there. Is kind of pain in the butt to get the system tweeked and running right. But is worth it in my opinion...

    check valve failing, NO FLOW

So, I changed to a clear check valve and have add a seperate refugium that I built and added to my sump. Connecting the two with bulkheads and clear tubing. Now no issues with overflow. When the check valve fails, I will remove and not replace it.
