Well it says etss 1200 on the base

I just hooked up for the first time my etss1200 skimmer. I was looking at the inside and noticed the cylinder has a pvc tube with holes in it. I traced the tube to the side of the base, and realized this tube is not connected to anything. Any one know what this tube is for?
