Well those rio's probably are turning your tank over maybe 1-2 times an hour... The Gen-X would turn your tank over about 6 or 7 times an over which is much better. Plus those internal pumps tend to die out or lose strength within 1-2 years... These external pumps last a lot longer with more...

I just started using it recently. Its much cheaper than brands like kent and works very efficiently. I do the combo alk / calium. The label says right on it how much to add. First use your test kit to see what levels of alk / calcium your tank has, then figure out what you want it to be, then...

Prime works great to declorinate tap water and also provides a good slime coat for those fish that need it... However it can smell like rotten eggs for awhile in the room it was used in haha... I prefer Amquel Plus which doesn't include the slime coating which can screw up the protein skimmer...

Yeah in water with plenty of nutrients they molt about every 2 weeks... at least mine did. I usually remove it, however if its in a spot that I can't get to my inverts usually eat it up really quick... I never noticed a water quality change, like when a fish dies...

You may see some results in that first week. However I recommend (and most sites do too) at least 1 pound of live rock per gallon of tank to be really effective. I personally do 2 pounds per gallon. Make sure your doing at least 10 % water changes a week. Can do 20% water changes for a couple...

I had good luck with a powder blue tang. He picked at the rock all day long, especially if you cut back on his normally veggie diet..

You should look at live rock just as you would your fish... Always quarantine for at least a couple weeks. If water stays zero'd your good to go. As far as how long it really takes to grow all the cool stuff back on them.... it just really varies.. Once the rocked is cured and safe for the tank...

You have to add around .02 to the hydrometer reading to account for the heated water as they are calibrated around 60 degrees, not 78-80ish that most tanks are at. Plus always make sure to rinse the hydrometer out with fresh water after testing so you don't get any build up. Refractometers are...
