Snyder versus Phelphs hits Supreme Court...must vent

This despicable 'church', Westboro Baptist Church, spews venom at the funeral of deceased soldiers and we are all (including the Supreme Court) powerless to do anything about it. I believe in 'free speech' and the USA but there has to be some legal arguement that all of you who discuss...

    PinPoint Nitrate Monitor

This looks like a nice piece of equipment but it is expensive and I have read mixed reviews about it on a large dry goods supplier's on-line site. Anyone used one here at swf or know of someone who has? Thanks

VIPMD doctors: another sign of our health care system changing

My family's physician of 20 years informed us recently that he is going to limit his practice to the first 600 people that pay $1,500/year/patient. He is becoming a 'concierge MD' with the corporate run medical delivery company known as VIPMD. We still pay for all tests, hospitalizations and...

Mechanics: Engine modification for Baja Doodlebug

I purchased a Baja Doodlebug (mini bike) to cover some ground at outside dog/horse event. I knew the engine was underpowered for this use when I bought it...good on flat rough terrain..not enough power to take on a hill. It has a cheap 2.5hp engine. I have heard that it is 'easy' to replace...

    Paper clip (metal) in tank

Ok....Don't ask how...but I managed to drop a paperclip into my reef tank and of course it decided to land in a spot that is very difficult to get to without some major moving of corals and rock. Should I be worried if I decide to just leave it there? Thanks The system is 156 gallon DT with...

    Newest fish for the mods

You are always listening to us about our fish and our problems. So moderators, I have a couple questions for you that may be of interest and be educating for all of us..... What is the most recent fish you added to your tank? Did you get it on line or at a LFS? Did you quarantine it, and if so...

    Alternative Energy-Wind/Solar

I am considering trying to go 'greener' by going with either some wind or solar power. I had someone come out fom a local company who brought wind 'maps' and measured an open area for how much unobstructed light it would get in a day. I can go with either (wind or solar) or a combination of...

Is the race for the White House over?

I an a registered Independent and I lean liberal on social issues and conservative on fiscal issues. Am I the only one that basically think that Obama/Biden, like them or not, basically have the election won at this point? Whether you are Republican/Democrate/Independent/Green Party...

    Possible Achilles problem

I have had an Achilles Tang for over a year in my two year old 156 gallon tank. Water parameters: temp 79-80; pH 8.3; ammonia/trites 0; 'trates' range from 2.5-5; SG 1.026. Nothing has been added or died for over 6 months. Last water change was about 10 days ago....35 gallons. He/she does...

    Zero Edge Aquariums

I was at a fairly nice 'coral propogation' farm recently and saw my first 'zero edge' aquarium. Very nice. The water flows up thru the center and overlows the tank sides into a collecting pan that sits under the aquarium edge and returns the water thru a drain back into the sump/skimmer area...
