    Ever Been Stung?

Don't let that scare you from getting the lion fish. They are great fish and very docile to your hands in the tank. It was my fault. He was hiding under a rock and I didn't see him there. When my hand got right next to him he got scared and stung me. Whenever I needed to get into the tank...

    Ever Been Stung?

I was stung by a lionfish a few years ago while cleaning my tank. It hurt like you wouldn't believe. It felt like a hundred bee stings. My hand and arm swelled up double in size. I didn't go to the hospital, just sat their in agony wondering if I was going to die. I fell asleep and woke up...

    Please ID this slug

I have many of these in my reef tank. I'm not sure what they are called, but have a reef buddy that has them also and confirms they are a good thing. They are more like a snail. At least that what it looks like to me.

Flow in DT and Circulation flow

I have a 55 gal DT and a 35 gal fuge/sump. I was wondering what the flow should be in my DT and what the flow rate should be circulating water from the DT through the fuge. My protien skimmer in off the DT. Is it necessary for the DT to have high water flow through the fuge or do you look at...

    DT flow-vs-DT/Fuge flow

I have a 55gal DT (reef) and a 35gal sump/fuge. I was wondering what the flow needs to be in the DT and what the flow should be changing water from the DT through the Fuge. I have about 500gph with power heads plus return from fuge 300. The DT/fuge circulation as stated is about 300gph. Thanks

    suitable sump/fuge

I would ditch bio-balls as well. I had them for years and battled nitrates fiercly. When I (slowly) removed them and increased LR, I have had much, much better nitrate levels. Hey reef, you say carbon "if needed"....is it true carbon mainly reduces amonia? Also, I use a small bag in my ref. I...

    Salt, Which, Why and Where?

excellent info everyone! It sounds like it's Tropic Marin Pro if you don't mind paying more with more consistant results. OR, IO at a much lower price, but adding cal. while watching and treating other numbers more often....... Thanks

    People are really this dumb!

The other day, my stepdaughter (age 21 who is in in 4th year at a major university) asked her mom for the phone book to look up the local tire shop. She said she needed to make an appointment to get her air pressure checked in her tires. I wanted to hear this phone call......When she was...

    Salt, Which, Why and Where?

Is Tropic Marin worth the money. I have used it and liked the results, but expensive. I am willing to pay for salt, for I feel it is very important. Does anyone have any comments on what is the best salt for the buck. Also where is a good place to look for decent prices on qty. of salt. The...

    protein skimmer, necessity or not?

your skimmer should be pulling out 1/2+ cup per day of brown water. If not, you do not have it dialed in, or you have the wrong skimmer IMO.

    protein skimmer, necessity or not?

I have a coralife super skimmer needle wheel and it works great. I pull out about 1-2 cups per day of nasty brown MUK. Has anyone else used this skimmer? I would recomend this too you. It is touchy. I would not recomend this skimmer to be put in a Ref. or Sump. It needs to be watched to...

    Xenia problems

thanks for the reply Pallan Is there a good source of info on the net about exactly how the relationship works between ALK., Calcium and PH and how one effects the other? Is 3.5 ALK high? I use Red Sea Marine Lab test kit. Should I be using something different? I use Iodine, Coral Vital, and...

    Xenia problems

I also have had a fish vanish recently. Maybe I have a big bristle in my tank as well. I have heard from others about the mystery of Xenia dying off with no explanation. I'm just hoping that there is one for my problem.

    Xenia problems

My Xenia is dying off and I can't figure out why. The rest of my tank is doing great. I was wondering if bristle worms could be the problem? Or maybe my water. The stalks have problems one at a time, within 24hrs a stalk will die, but the rest of the colony is fine. Then the next day or so...

    Xenia in Seattle

RSD, Do you still have Xenia you need to get rid of? I live in the Seattle area and would love to have some. My tank is ready for corals now (I hope) and would like to try Xenia. I have a couple of very small stalks on my live rock, but too small to even notice. Would really appriciate it...
