    "Family" tattoo

i say go ahead and get the family tattoo. just dont start it with an "F" like that stoopid "FAMOUS STARS AND STRIPES" F. i wouldnt put it on the arm that your thinking of doing your 1/4 sleeve on. more than likely the "family" will be in cursive or old english, which will clash with your marine...

    Newbie Needs Help

the average for the cycle to complete is 4-6 weeks. the skimmate in the skimmer is a good thing. as previously stated, just let it run, and empty the skimmer regularly. in about a week, you can start running the lights for about 1-2 hours a day. after 3 weeks, do your first water change, 10-15...

How much does it cost to get started?

ok, here is my 2 cents. its going to cost you twice as much as you can afford right now. that is because, unless you are VERY strict with your spending, you will always spend more than your initially budgeted. you will see the cool corals, beautiful fish, and latest and greatest in equipment...

    Anyone have tips for aquascaping?

make sure that all the rock is very snug against eachother. you dont want them toppling over and hitting the glass/acrylic of the tanks. once i know where i want the rock to sit, i try to wedge it between the other rocks, and tap it with the heal of my hand to make it snug. some people actually...

    lets see those RO/DI set-ups

then all you need is a float valve. when the bin fills with water, the float valve closes, creating back pressure, then activating the ASO. the float valve works similiar to that of a toilet tank. some of the better LFS may stock a float valve. i got mine at the local tractor supply store. the...

    lets see those RO/DI set-ups

its not the waste water outlet that creates back pressure. its either the ro (drinking) water outlet (which is connected to the pressurized steel tank) or the ro/di (reef water) outlet, which is connected to the top bin that has a float valve. the pressurized steel tank, and the float valve are...

    lets see those RO/DI set-ups

and just a reminder, either way you go with mounting the heater. make sure you either have it submersed in water ALL THE TIME, or have it on a switch. i personally have my mixing bin on a power strip. about 3-4 days before a water change, i fill the mixing bin with water, turn on the power...
