    Hi Beth, Just a thought...you say that you have a UGF. That could be the reason for the high nitrates that won't come down. How long has this tank been set up? UGF will get dirty and then you are asking for troubles. Thats why they are not recommended any more. They do work for a while...

    Indy1, be careful with high (550+) calcium levels. With ph levls of 8.2 or higher, supersaturation can occur. This will make your job a lot more difficult to have a balanced aquarium! JMO Cooder
