I made the mistake recently of placing a yellow worm too close to my green hammer coral. The next day, the area where there was contact had "brown jelly" on it and the polyps were dissolving. About a half square inch. Anyway, I took a tooth brush and carefully removed the jelly and then...
Hey gang,
Any suggestions for that area in my tank on a five inch high piece of live rock with twenty inches above it where the tank drains out over the bioballs? There is hardly any water flow at all there. I already have hammer, brain, yellow and green polyps and colt finger in other parts...
I recently just got a 55 gal. tank and it is just about ready for coral and fish. I have been looking online for a few suggestions. I want a hawkfish but people say it will attack everything and others say it is their favorite. Please tell me about this and other fish suggestions! :D
If you don't take into account other livestock in the tank (just for discussion's sake), what does everyone think a 55 can handle in terms of room for the fish. It seems this messageboard thinks even tangs are eventually going to be uncomfortable. Are there other large fish to consider...

I thought that one or two tangs would be nice to look at as well as help keep the algae eaten. At first I even considered one...
Call me Ishmael.
OK. Witness how my wishlist for my first reef tank has evolved...
Two gold headed gobies--no good...they will spray sand on to my clam.
Blue legged hermits-- nope...they will kill my snails for shells.
Hippo tang--no way too ich prone
Powder blue or brown--nope too...
I am trying to cycle a new 55 gal.tank. One week ago I added live rock. The only signs of life so far are a few thin anemone -like growths spiraling (1/2 inch) and one thicker growth (one inch long). Should I just sit back and observe since I don't even know what they are or should I assume...
OK. Is this correct or am I still not getting it.
The live rock comes with lots of live organisms out of the ocean. Then,
the supplier tries to get it to the customer so that some of the stuff
survives. Then, the new aquarium owner sticks it in the tank and what has
survived the trip now...
