Need help finding the right RO/DI filter system. Please help!

Hey guys, been in the hobby for about four years now. I've got a 55 gal reef with no sump. I buy my water from a little filtration system called Water Mill Express. It's just a little automated water dispenser in a grocery store parking lot. You can get 5 gals of filtered water for $1.50. I...

Nova Extreme T5 moonlight leds not working; Can I repair it?

I did a little searching and found that a replacement for the Current led ac adapter is available for sale. Does this mean that these things have been known to fail? If so, it'd be a lot easier to just cut the wires and splice a new ac adapter than it would be to tear the whole thing apart...

Nova Extreme T5 moonlight leds not working; Can I repair it?

Hey guys. I've had a Nova Extreme T5 HO (4x 54W) for about four years. I'm not sure when it happened, but the moonlight leds stopped working. I'd like to get it working again and am wondering if this is something I can repair. I've done a fair amount of electronics work before so I don't...

Too much LR? 100+ lbs in 55 gal

No, I don't have a sump. What you're saying does make a lot of sense.

Too much LR? 100+ lbs in 55 gal

Thanks for the reply. I guess what I'm asking is can this cause a problem in the tank. I was browsing the web and ran across a thread somewhere that stated that too much LR could cause problems and lead to a crash and the destruction of all LR in the tank. That one response didn't get much...

    Is this a dumb question?

Too much LR? 100+ lbs in 55 gal

Hey guys. I'm in the process of 'rebooting' my 55 gallon and I purchased 50 additional pounds of Florida Reef base rock to go with my existing 55-65 pounds of Fiji LR I've been having in the tank for the last four years. Is 105-115 pounds too much for my 55? What's the max I should have in the...

Getting rid of anthelia with pickling lime

I'd consider that a blessing! :) You probably keep up with your water changes and other maintenance where mine has been on cruise control for a while due to an overly aggressive clownfish (biting and breaking the skin). I guess that's not an excuse for the water changes but I have been...

    Clownfish drawing blood

Just as an update, I put on a pair of surgical gloves and the fish did come up to my hand at first and took a very small, mostly nonagressive nibble and then left me alone for the rest of the time. I stayed in the tank for about 45 minutes and no problems at all. I did end up forgetting to...

Getting rid of anthelia with pickling lime

I read somewhere that Joe's Juice is just a pickling lime solution. I'm guessing that Joe's Juice and Aiptasia X are pretty much the same thing as well? I had some Aiptasia X and decided to hit some of the Anthelia with it. I managed to get a lot of it on the mouth/feeding opening of each...

    Clowfish aggressive due to hunger?

Just as suddenly as it started, the harrasment has stopped. I did notice that the female was also doing the shake/wiggle when the male did it too. The male is now swimming around freely again. I took a better look at him and looks like he got nipped a good many times. I guess this will heal...

    Clowfish aggressive due to hunger?

I bought the little guy from the LFS and the female came from SWF.com . They were both listed as ocellaris clownfish although they do differ in color a bit. The LFS clow is a lighter shade of orange than the SWF.com but their markings are identical.   I'm afraid I don't really know what paring...

    Clowfish aggressive due to hunger?

Actually they aren't a pair. I had the smaller one first and then added the now agressive one about three or four months later.   Not sure what you mean about rearranging the rocks. Are you saying to do this to make him less territorial?   Thanks for the advice, btw.

    Clowfish aggressive due to hunger?

I think I'll give that a try. Any idea on how long it might take to correct this behavior?

    Clowfish aggressive due to hunger?

I've got two clownfish and a royal gramma in my 55 gal tank. Both clowns have been in the tank for about 2-2.5 years. One clow has always been agressive towards me when I put my hand in the tank, but he seems to play well with his tank mates.   I've cut back on my feedings to once every two...

Getting rid of anthelia with pickling lime

I read that the anthelia can survive a good long while without light. I also have a good bit of soft corals so lights out is not a viable option.   Can anyone point me to a how-to on making the paste and applying? Do I do it with the rock still in the tank or do I pull the rock, apply and then...

    Clownfish drawing blood

At times I've thought about getting rid of him, but he's a good looking fish when your hand isn't in the tank!   Can anyone offer any other suggestions (short of blowing it up that is! :))
