    Plumbing Question

Thanks for the tips. I'm just not sure I understand your statement about this system being gravity fed. Could you explain that to me? Did you put a pump between the tanks? Or is the intake on you calcium reactor "pulling" water through the PVC and bulkheads? I wasn't thinking of putting a...

    Plumbing Question

Currently I've got a wet/dry setup on my 55 gallon tank. With the return pump (Magdrive 9.5) and skimmer in the sump area it's really cramped. So, I'm thinking about turning an old 10 gallon tank into a refugium and adding it to the system. My question is, can I drill the side of the acrylic...

Ick on Atlantic tang, quick question

So every fish that has ever caught ick and not gone through hypo has died? I don't really buy into that. Regardless of whether or not trying to boost their immune system through adding vitamins and garlic is documented or not, it is currently my only choice. It will be at least another ten...

Ick on Atlantic tang, quick question

I recently bought a juvenille Atlantic tang, and it developed ick within a few days. I know I can quarrantine and treat it with hypo or medication, but for reasons I don't want to get into, I can't set up another tank. So, I decided I'd try the "keep them well-fed and see if they pull through"...

55 Gallon Tank One Year Later

Thanks for the compliments. Aquascaping a 55 is a pain. I really want a bigger tank, but that involves a new stand, new lights, new pumps....probably a new job. I've got T5's. One 54W actinic and one 54W 10K. Those have individual reflectors and are on the same ballast. Because I really...

55 Gallon Tank One Year Later

Thanks for the compliments. I'm aware of the issue with the tang, which is why I'm going with a juvie. I've got some friends with bigger tanks that are willing to take it off my hands.

55 Gallon Tank One Year Later

I started my mixed reef tank in February of 2008. Its come a long way since then, and I thought I'd share some pictures. February 2008 June 2008 September 2008 February 2009 I don't have a very good camera, or that many pictures. I've had some successes and some failures. I've learned a...

    Reef Safe Epoxy

My superglue has been giving me fits lately, so I think its time to try something different. Does anyone know of a brand name that's safe and readily available at Home Depot or Lowes?

    Blue Zoanthids?

I don't think the coloration is due to the lighting. I swiped the pictures off the site. Here's the neons: And the darker blues: I just haven't seen many like this before and was wondering if they are rare, or if I just don't look in the right places.

    Hair algae on montipora

Quick question- Somehow I managed to get a spot of hair algae growing on a monti cap. I know I need to figure out why I've got it growing in the first place, but what's the best way to get it off the coral? Thanks.

    Blue Zoanthids?

I found a site that sells blue and neon blue zoanthids. I haven't seen many other places sell these colors. Has anyone seen or kept these anywhere?

    What are these fish...

Illegal, but neat. They look like schoolmasters, however those are juvenile mangrove snapper (also known as black or gray snapper depending on where you are). They are gamefish that must be 10" to keep. The Nassau grouper is protected in the United States. I wouldn't get caught with that...

    Florida Shipping?

There is a banner on the site that advertises $14.99 shipping for FL residents, but when I put a bunch of items in my cart the system wants to charge me $34.99. I'm a returning customer and my Florida address is already populated. Anyone know what's up with this?

    Fish ID

Found it! http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...ry.php?id=3348 It is a "Belted Sandfish", Serranus subligarius. I knew it was in the grouper family. Thanks for the suggestions though.

    Fish ID

I thought about that, but I'm not aware of any hawkfish native to the Gulf of Mexico.

    Fish ID

    Nope, not a hogfish. It's jaw isn't structured like a hog's.
