    Advice on Non-Shunted T5 Sockets

I thought one of the ballast was going out on my TEK light a couple of months back so I quickly ordered a new ballast (it's an AccuStart Triad). The ballast wasn't going bad so since I have a brand new ballast laying around collecting dust I thought I would add some supplimental light to my...

    To those that have Puffers

I'm just curious how those of you who have puffers (any type) keep your tanks clean. My GF loves the looks of a Porcupine Puffer, thinks they are so cute, blah blah blah, and would love for me to have one. Both my tanks have shrimp, crabs, snails, etc as a clean up crew so I can't put one in...

    My new Sabae Clown

I've had a Sabae clown hosting a Sabae anemone for about 8 months, and I'd always wanted to get her a mate but could never find another Sabae clown locally. Well I finally found one and he went into the tank this past weekend. As I knew would happen, she went straight at him and started nipping...

    Fish food question.

Do fish get used to a certain type/brand of food and will only eat that? I have always fed my fish Wardley Sprectramax on the advise of a LFS, but this weekend while at a different store I picked up some Omega One Marine Flakes with Garlic because I have a yellow tang that not eating well. I...

    Need some advise

Ok, I need some advise from all you reefers. I have 2 FOWLR tanks and I would like to add some color to them so I think I might try my hand at corals. My 75 has 4x54 watt T5 lighting and from what I have read I could keep some zoas, mushrooms, and soft corals. Is that correct? Also, what...

A question for trigger fish owners

I know that triggers will eat hardshell inverts, so what do you guys do for a clean up crew? Do you manually clean your substrate, or do you keep your triggers well fed so they won't eat your snails and crabs, or do you do something else?

    Yet Another Cycling Question

I read something about someone on here going through a 'no cycle' cycle a few weeks ago, but I can't find the thread now. And I am wondering if that's what has happened to me. I set up a 125 about 3 weeks ago. I put in about a 2-3 inch sand bed and seeded it with about 30-40 pounds of live sand...

    T-5 Bulb Recommendation

I have a Tek 4x54W T-5 and I think it's time to replace the bulbs. After looking around here some and reading what other had to say I decided to go with the ATI bulbs. I emailed another site that sells bulbs and told them that I'd heard that ATI bulbs were good ones and if they could recommend...

Moving fish from one tank to another

I am picking up a 125 this evening and I was wondering if I could get some advise on moving some of my fish. Right now I have a 75 with a scopas and a yellow tang, plus some other smaller fish. My idea is to make the 75 a tank for smaller fish, and the 125 for larger. So I am going to move the...

    Quick cheato question

I know a guy who is going to give me a sandwich bag of cheato, but I don't have a sump or a fuge to put it in. Couldn't I just put it in a breeders net that I am not using and let it hang on the side of the tank? I'm thinking this would allow it light and flow while keeping my tangs away from it.

Advise on a 150 partitioned for sump

I've been looking around for a 125 or a 135 because I'd like to keep large species (ie: tangs, butterflies, etc) and I thought I'd like to use a sump this time for astetic reasons. But instead of having to mess with the plumbing and all of that I had this idea. Couldn't I get a 150 (72x24...

False Percs from the same Brood

I know a guy about an hour away from me that breeds false percs, and his latest brood will be available for sale in a couple of weeks. I am really interested in buying a couple from him because I know they have been cared for increadably well and I figure that they will probably get along great...

72" light fixture vs. 2 36" light fixtures

I am looking at a used 72" tank and my current 48" light won't fit on it. If you were in my position and needed to buy new lights would you go for one 72" or two 36" fixtures and why?

Question about my White Sebae Anemone

A couple of months ago I bought a White Sebae Anemone from my LFS before I knew anything about white anemones. I'm happy to say that he is starting to turn brownish, inflates and deflates, so I beleive that he's doing ok now. The question is, is it normal for it to never move nor plant it's...

Anyone have a Fluval 403 Canister?

I just got an increadable deal on a used Fluval 403 but there are some parts missing, and I can't find any good parts diagrams on the web. The only one I have been able to find is one on Hagen's site, and it's so tiny I can't make everything out. So if anyone knows of a good parts diagram for...

    Yellow Tang Diet

I have read on another site that Yellow Tangs "In the tank, it needs a varied diet high in beta-carotene and vitamin C, and low in protein matter." and should be fed, among other things, "...vegetarian items such as Spirulina, zucchini, broccoli, leaf lettuce, and dried seaweed." I have tried...

Sebae Clown hording food or feeding anemone?

I recently bought a sebae clown and a sebae anenome, and every time I feed my fish the clown will eat some flakes and some flakes (especially larger ones) he will take back to the anemone and push the flake under it or in between the anemones tenticles. My local fish store told me that sometimes...

    Yet another skimmer question

Ok here's the deal. I have a 55 FOWLR and possibly will be moving my SW to a 78 I am currently using for FW. I would like to get a HOB protein skimmer, and can afford $150ish with shipping right now. I've read a lot of "seaclones are a piece of junk" messages, so I am not looking at them. But I...

    Auriga/Threadfin Butterfly

Does anyone have any experience with keep an Auriga (aka Threadfin) Butterfly in the same tank as a CUC? The reason I ask is because my local fish store can get me a good deal on an Auriga, and everything I have read on them say that they are very hardy and a great beginner fish. The problem is...

    Lights/Timer Question

I just bought a Tek light fixture with two blue and two white bulbs. It has two power cords and two switches, and I am thinking about putting them on timers. My question is what sequence and time frame should I use. For example, blue on white off for 2 hours, then both on for 8 hours, then blue...
