    Floors strong enought????

I hired a structural engineer to inspect my 75g w/ 20g sump tank placement as my living room is on the second floor. He was able to take some best "guesses" off of the nail placement (in garage underneath living room) and come up with formulas of weight displacement. He estimated around 50%...

    Are bristleworms harmful to coral/anemone?

I have them and keep them in my reef tank with corals and an anemone. As far as I know, they only eat dead stuff.

    jst a couple questions.

I just installed my first sump and overflow about a month ago on my 75 gallon. I think the rate of flow depends on what size pipe is installed within your overflow. I'm not sure on what size pipe corresponds to what rate of flow, but I'm sure you could research it. Safely, I would say your...

Need some help adding a couple more fish

Look into a Firefish. I have two. Very peaceful, beautiful, and hold their own. They pretty much stay within one main area, but contrast your other fish that move around or perch on rocks.

    Help my Bubble Coral

Yeah, it just looks deflated. Mine will do that when I move things around. Try feeding it and see if it'll eat.

    Help with sump please

The sponges are for the overflow tubes. They fit over the drain tubes, not the u-siphons. I think to keep large "things" out and keep from clogging your drain. I put some sponge foam over the top of my drain tube to quiet the noise in my overflow. Made a huge difference.

    In preparation--a few questions

Mushrooms are the easiest. Cleaner shrimp is a nice addition to a reef and a black brittle star.

    FED UP!!! its war time!

I used Algae Fix from API as a last resort to fight my hair algea and it worked great! The hair algae all fell apart and fell off the rocks within a week. You just need to suck up all of the fallen algae. I continued to use it for a couple of weeks after to maintain the algea problem and...

    Help with T5 bulbs

Ok, thanks! So, wouldn't it be best to get a VHO as opposed to an HO?

    Help with T5 bulbs

I figured I'd piggy-back off of this thread then start my own. If I want to replace my HO 54W T5 bulb with another, does it have to be another HO T5 bulb (obviously still @ 54W)? Or can I replace with a VHO T5 bulb (@ 54W)? I'm guessing it has to remain at HO because of the ballests, but not...

    coralreefer's 75 gallon build

That's how I did mine. Transfered from 40 to 75 in one day without cycling. Took the original water and added more. Did the sand first, rocks, then more water. Just like a 40-50% water change. Shouldn't cause a mini-cycle.

    Orange spotted goby

Once I got my organe spotted goby, it took 2 weeks for me to find him. I thought he was dead that whole time. I've had him a month now, and he's just starting to get comfortable coming out in the day, but not too far from his cave. Same here, the six-line chases him back into the cave every...

    coralreefer's 75 gallon build

Sounds like a great plan. That will be one nice, big sump setup. It's always nice to get free tanks or accessories!!!

Everyone Says there are no stupid questions So here I go...

Lack of surface skimming at that time. Quite a few micro-bubbles. A lot of salt creep. Like I said, had no idea what I was doing and thought bubbles were good. I've come a long way!!!

Everyone Says there are no stupid questions So here I go...

When I first converted to saltwater from years of freshwater, I allowed bubbles into my tank from the powerhead thinking it was necessary until I read otherwise. My chalk basslet did get the "eye bubble" syndrome from this and lost his eye. A bubble formed around his eye and eventually swelled...

    Why did my Clown jump???

Not the same, but I had to scoop a chromis out of my overflow today. Poor guy was struggling to keep up with the flow. I put my hand in to grab him and he willingly swam up into my hand. They sleep in the corners so he was probably in there all night.
