I am having the exact same problem, just cleaned it all off today as a matter of fact. I am using RO water....it just started though recently. Tank smells like algae now too. Didn't really before. I've never had an algae problem. Anything I can do to treat this? It annoys me.

I checked my pH after the water change and it reads at 8.1ish so that is up. Also, I have 2 koralia #2s that have been going, all the fish look a TON better. I was so scared.....it sucks that I lost 2 though....thanks for anyone's help.

Thanks for the quick replies. So moving on then. How can I clean out the filter and protein skimmer? Hot water? That's what I used to wash out the tank really well. I've heard of a water and vinegar mixture....how much of each, and is it just regular vinegar? I don't want to mess anything up or...
