Does anyone know how long I should keep the skimmer turned off while doing a chemical treatmeat for cyno?

we have some maroon hairy algae all over our tank that seemed to pop up overnight. Can someone tell me how to get rid of it? and what it is? I will attach a photo soon...but in the mean time this stuff is all over the sand and growing on the live rock.

We have 2 tanks and we're considering moving our porcupine puffer to the other tank. We have a cleaner shrimp (big) and a purple lobster (big) and lots of snails...will he bother these guys? Currentlly he's in a tank that has a chocolate chip star and he doesn't bother him. thanks!

We have an established tank and were given some "live" rock that a friend has been storing in his garage. It's been out of water for a couple of years, so can we "re-cure" it? Can we just add it to our tank for decoration?
