    Mixing wrasses

I already have a wrasse, not entirely sure what kind though. It's about the size of a yellow but is orange with red stripes down its body. Is it possible to also add a 6-line in a 46G tank or would they fight?

    Chocolate chip starfish...again...sorry.

I did a search yesterday and read loads about these guys eating all the stuff off of the live rock and snails and the like. I bought one recently knowing they're not reef safe since I have a FOWLR. I don't mind if the little guy occassionaly has a little snack but, if it's gonna devour all the...

    False percs

I just bought a pair of really cute false percs. I took a chance and got them from different tanks in the store, brought them home, acclimatised them and added them at exactly the same time....they've been almost inseperable since they were added. Just curious. I've read about clowns spawning in...

    To Timsedwards.

Hi, There don't seem to be many Brits on here so I thought I'd say hi. I know this isn't a chatboard but I do have a question relevant to the hobby so......you mentioned in a recent post about LR being expensive in England. I'm currently living in Japan and am curious about how much it is in...

Tangs in "small" tanks pt. 2.

I would really like to get a tang for my 46G tank. I won't get one, however, if I believe the fish will not be happy. I would be really grateful if people would post their experiences with tangs in similar size tanks. Good or bad. Thanks.

    Tangs in "small" tanks.

What I would really like to know is how people are deciding that, say, 90G is fine for a tang but a 55 is not. Many will say that tangs like swimming room and therefore you need a big tank. OK, fine, but when you consider tank size vs. tank volume the arguments stop making sense. All...

    Any suggestions???

I recently moved all my fish from a 15G to a 46G. Currently I have a couple of small gobies, a maroon clown, a cherub angel, a wrasse and a small puffer. I want to add just one or 2 more fish. All my current fish are, and will stay, pretty small. I'd like to get something a little bigger. I...

    Move successful.

I recently posted saying how I proposed to move apartment while moving my fish into a bigger tank. Thanks to all those who offered me advice. Fingers crossed but I completed the move 5 days ago and everyone is fine and eating well - although they can't quite work out where the food is coming...

DSB with no clean up crew.

I live in Japan and in the 3 years that I've kept SW fish, I have barely seen a hermit crab. Basically, I'm going to set up a 46G with DSB and I don't think I'll be able to get a clean-up crew. I will buy a sand-sifting goby of course. Should I give up on the DSB?

A few questions about LS and LR.

I'm going to be moving everything into a bigger tank in a few weeks and I'd really appreciate it if anyone could clear a few things up for me..... (1) How much sand should I buy for a 46G tank (90cm by 45cm)? I've read that 3-4 inches is good. Why is such a deep bed good? How much sand would...

    Moving to a bigger tank.

Hi, I haven't posted here for ages. I'm not really a beginner but this is kind of a beginner question so...... I have a very small set-up: 15 gallons with 6 fish - cherub angel, maroon clown, wrasse, puffer and 2 gobies. The system is very stable and has been set up for 3 years. I am moving to...

    Strange blenny behaviour.

I've had a scooter blenny in my tank for about 10 months without any problems. After adding a 6-line wrasse, the blenny started spending all day hovering about the tank since the wrasse took to ramming it and biting it whenever it was on the rock. I took the wrasse back to the shop since I...

    To Helplesschild

Hey there, I know how you feel about getting flamed for having a tang in a 10g. I had one in a 15 and was told on here that my tank wasn't even big enough for a goldfish! I did eventually take the tang back to the shop - it just didn't look happy. I'd like to say something constructive to you...

    Four completely unrelated questions.

Sorry about how random these questions sound; I've been wondering about them all for a while.....any input on any of them would be appreciated. (1) Everyone says that coralline algae is beneficial which is nice to hear coz I have loads of it. In what way is it beneficial exactly? (2) What are...

    Help!!

Some of you may remember me, as Slyly, complaining that my purple goby had what looked like hairs sticking out of its head and body. I may have found the culprit. Holy s**t!! I put in a small anenome the other day and I gave it more food than it could eat before the light went off...

    Emerald crabs.

I have the beginnings of bubble algae on one piece of live rock and I've been reading that, if it gets out of control, then an emerald crab will eat it. My fish are all kind of small. Two of them are bottom dwellers: a small scooter blenny and a very small goby(white with orange stripes and a...

    To the moderators...

Sorry, this isn't about fish... Remember a couple of weeks ago when the board got cleared? Well, I think I posted the message that did something strange. This page was fine till I hit submit and then everything disappeared. Now I seem to have been deleted. My name was Slyly and I have ceased to...

    Feels like starting over.

Well, it's just me and my shrimp now. And a couple of worms and crabs. I'm gonna leave my tank fallow for a period to let the ICK DIE DIE DIE!!! Am I right in thinking that: (1) Even without fish in the tank, it will remain cycled because of the media I have in the filter sump(coarse stones)...

    cyanobacteria???

I've been trying to do some research on this but haven't had much luck. Some say that it's blue-green and others red-purple(even black.) I have a bloom of red purple hairy algae on one area of my substrate. Does anyone know what it is and is it bad? Is it cyanobacteria? Thanks.

    Uninvited but welcome guest.

I purchased a really nice piece of "dead" coral the other day with very sharp edges. I didn't realise until I got home that there was actually live coral on the rock. I think it was dying so it was sold as rock. I've tried to find out what it is but can't. It's kind of flourescent green...
