I hope I can swim.... (First venture into Saltwater 29g build)

Haha I've done that a few times myself. Best $30 bucks I ever spent was on a Maxijet 1200 and about 10' of vinyl tubing. So when I have to do water changes (or move my tank lol) it's a heck of a lot easier. Also in regards to your salinity question I keep my tank at 1.025 but the general rule of...

setting up a new tank 29 gal

It sHould pass on its own slowly. In my opinion, I would bump up your snail count to about 15 or 20 of varying types. Some sift sand while others will even munch on the diatoms. Good luck and hope all goes well!

Buying Live Rock Online - Quantity Unknown

It really depends on the type of rock you want. Some is a lot more porous than others. For example I have a 92 gallon tank and bought 55 lbs of Pukani rock which is very porous and anything more and I think my tank would be overcrowded. Not to mention if you buy live rock the water weight will...

    smartwave upgrade?

I just wanted to chime in although I am quite new to the hobby. I have 2 new Koralia 750 Evo's that are attached to the Smartwave. It's only been setup for about 4 weeks or so but so far I have had no issues. I know on some older models there were tons of issues with them starting in reverse due...

First two corals added! I got myself the Red Sea Reef test kit and my levels were all looking great so I decided to get my first two corals from my LFS! Acclimated the mushroom for about 1.5 hours. All seem to be doing very well. I'm 99% sure its a Bullseye Mushroom. Toadstool leather coral...

    Sump or no sump?

Definitely go with a sump if you can. Great way to add more volume to your setup and hide all of your mechanics. Minus the cost of the skimmer and return pump...my sump cost about 75 to make and that's because I bought a brand ewv20 gallon tank to use.

    I'm finally up and running!!!

Looking good so far. Good call with raising your lights like u did. I have my LEDs about 10" off the water level. Like you said, it allows for a greater light spread. Good luck with your initial cycle!

    RODI questions

Yeah I believe the typical loss is around 3 to 4 gallons of waster water for every 1 gallon of Rodi. So you would need a lot of buckets!
