    Sand question

I'm in the process of setting up a 120 gallon reef and I do not want to buy all live sand for the tank. I was thinking of using some live sand from my current 30 gallon tank to seed play sand or something similar. What brands of play sand are aquarium safe? I am planning on purchasing the sand...

Lights for a 120 gallon reef

I'm in the process of setting up a 120 gallon acrylic reef tank (48"x24"x24") and need recommendations for lighting. I have been thinking about 2 250 watt 14k MH with lumenarcs and 2 VHO actinic (I already have an Icecap 430 ballast). Would the 250 watt MH be sufficient or do I need to step up...

    Bulkheads

I'm drilling a 55 gallon tank and want to know which is better to use....slip or threaded bulkheads? I would think threaded because they would allow easier removal of plumbing.

Drilling for overflows on a 55 gallon glass tank

I would like to drill a 55 gallon glass tank for overflows. I know the correct bit to use and have drill glass in the past with good results. I am fairly certain the bottom glass is tempered so I would have to drill the back of the tank. What is the best method for installing overflows in a back...

    ID on these two please

I think this one is grape kelp after posting the last time but I just want to make sure that it is not harmful. I am not sure about the next pic. I think it is some sort of algae but it is very bristly

    What silicone can I use?

I am having trouble figuring out which silicone I can use to fix my refugium. Someone told me to use the GE 100% silicone but the only GE tubes I can find (door & window or kitchen & bath) say that they are not for use on aquariums but both are 100% silicone. I know that you can buy aquarium...

    Had to downgrade

Well, after moving I figured out there was no way to fit my 100 gallon in so I sold it and got a 30 gallon long. I know that smaller tanks are harder to keep; so does anyone have any pointers? I have been in the hobby for a few years now so I think I will manage ok but a few good pointers always...

    My cleaner shrimp died

My cleaner shrimp that I have had for over a year died today for no apparent reason. Everything in the tank looks cool and it had been eating well. Any ideas? I pulled it out and it isn't his exoskeleton so he wasn't just molting.
