RO/DI Filters DO remove chlorine. They remove everything! (Well, 99.8% of everything) ;) Including everything good that you may want in your water! I have no opinion about adding supplements to replace those though.

Are there any negitives to using a protein skimmer? Do they take out essential trace elements or anything like that? Also, i've been told they are not needed when using a refusium/DSB. Is that good advice?

You're probabally at the best place to get help with a problem at midnight! I hope the kids room that you were painting wasn't anywhere near the tank. The paint fumes could have easily poisened your tank if you have enough air exchange!

I would like to paint the back of my tank, to eliminate salt creep between the glass and the backing. Do most people paint their tank backs, and what color seems to be the favorite? Also, does it matter what kind of paint I use?
