    Cloudy water

Hi everyone!! Just getting back into SWF after about 20 yrs. 65-gallon tank (60x15x15"). Planning for FOWLR. Not in a big hurry to stock it. Hoping for a little reassurance. I bought about 60 lbs of live argonite sand and 50# or so, of base rock from a guy who took down a tank a month or so ago...

    40 or 135 gallon choice?

I'm thinking about SWF again. Not sure how I'll filter, but I'm thinking about Eheim, HOB and skimmer with some live rock. I'm not leaning toward a DSB. I've never had a SW tank smaller than 65 gallon before. Would the 40 be too much trouble? Would it need a sump? Would the 135 cost a lot more...

    Red Sea Prizm skimmer

Anybody tried one? I was thinking about setting up a FOWLR 40 gal. and adding one of these. Do they work, and are they noisy? Thanks.

135 cherry Oceanic and stand in NC

Oceanic dark cherry oak stand matches tank. Like new condition. Glass cover and matching fluorescent light strips. $1,000. I'd rather not ship it anywhere. I also have an Ocean Clear filter and Little Giant 5MD-SC pump...offers?

    Reverse flow UGF

I hope this doesn't offend too many people. I'm considering trying it again. It worked well (years ago) for a fish only tank. My tank is 30 gallons, with a HOB filter. I was thinking sand, RF UGF with 2 hagen powerheads, maybe the HOB or an Eheim canister... Any input? Thanks.

    Anyone used Eheim surface extractor?

Going to put one on a 135 gal Malawi tank. I can't remember if it matters where you put the "T" for the intake hose. I lost the instructions.

    Oceanic tanks?????

I saw a 135 for sale. Every glass edge was polished, and most were beveled. Is Oceanic making them all (except the "E-series") this way now? Thanks

    Powerhead bubbles harmful?

I like to use the venturi on powerheads to keep the water surface clean. Can the bubbles stress or harm fish? In a SW tank, the bubbles are really small. Thanks

Things ya don't want in your reef tank!!

There are some creatures that may look harmless, but have no place in a reef tank. Could you folks please post some pics or testimonials with discriptions and the reason they have to be avoided? I'll start: 1. There's a false cleaner wrasse. It's almost identical to the cleaner, but the mouth is...

    Help...Feather duster info please

I put some sick fish (ick) in my newly established tank. Ten days later, they (3) are all dead. My four hermits are just fine:) One hermit added two weeks ago abandoned his shell. The shell has two real small 1/4" things that look like feather dusters. They stay open all day, and close at night...

Why would you want a mantis?

I hear they can break aquarium glass, and are very adept at killing things. Who has successfully kept one, and can recommend it?

(Dascyllus carencus?) I just got one, and can't find any info on them. Anyone have experience with them? Will he try to "own" a 65 gallon tank? Thanks

    List some hardy fish please

I want a dwarf lion and a maroon clown, and some jawfish. My 65 gallon tank just finished cycling (took 3 weeks). I wanted a panther grouper, but have decided the tank is too small. Maybe we'll get some fire fish (dwarf lion cuisine??), a hawk nose, etc. I need suggestions of hardy fish. We want...

    Can I add fish now?

Tank's been cycling for 3 weeks. Nitrites are at 0.5ppm. I'm thinking of a maroon clown for my first fish.

What drops first, nitrites or ammonia?

Cycling tank; when nitrites fall to zero, is it safe to add fish? I don't have an ammonia test kit yet. Seems like I heard once that ammonia follows nitrites. Thanks

Niger trigger and panther grouper vs hermits

I'm planning on a somewhat aggressive 65 gallon tank. I'd like the hermits for helping me clean up. I was planning to buy a real small chain link moray. Sounds like he's a crab slayer (when he grows some). If the niger trigger and panther grouper are inclined to eat hermits, maybe I should sell...

Agressive tanks: How do you address nitrates?

Any success with growing plants? Do you use lots of live rock? Frequent water changes??? Algae filters?...or do you not worry too much since the fish are tolerant?
