3yr old plenum reef still running

Hi everyone, I have a picture of my 29gal Reefugium. There are no fish in it. I only add makeup water, Marinesnow and Aragamilk to the tank. It doesnt have a skimmer and only uses powerheads and mechanical filtration. The sand bed is a plenum system and the water chemistry is constant. For...

    Hi everyone

I haven't been around in about a year, I will be checking out the board actively again prolly once a week as a minimum. In answer to NM Reef, I was surprised to be remembered after so long. I will be making another site when I have a chance. I will post pictures soon. I built an aquarium...

    Aragamilk results

I have tested it and found it to be extremely effecient in maintaining calcium and alkalinity levels. I believe it to be better the two part additives and easier to use. Highly recommended by me and is now a permanent part of my reef maintenance. BurnNSpy

    Alianated and JohnnySalt

Sorry Alianated, I locked your post because JonnySaly posted a link to other BB's and that is not authorized here. Natures Ocean is the sand you mentioned, it is live in that it contains the bacteria needed to give a new tank a fast cycle. It contains no other creatures. BurnNSpy

Misty: personnel note from da nutorious BurnNSpy

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going slow. I believe that you will be more successful and save money in the long run. A lot of Gonipora corals and Mandarin Dragonnets would probably still be around if other novices did that too...oops a little negative there :( Have fun and good luck...

    flydan's Mandarin

It is not necessary to wait a year to get a Mandarin, but sacrifices must be mad to accomodate its residence. There two important factors to consider: Food - You need a good amount of LR(1-2lbs per gallon and I recommend sm-med sizes) to seed the tank with copepods and amphipods, it took me...

    BurnNSpy's lessons learned

So far I have watched some livestock die in my reef tank: Dottyback eaten by a hermit that was sold to me as a scarlet hermit but wasn't. Scopas Tang, got a type of fungus and died before copper treatment became effective. Hawkfish jumped from the tank. Pipefish, I tried to save it from the LFS...

Lighting does not equal tank size

I hear all to often the tank size used to determine the lighting requirement. That is all wrong. Only the coral inhabitants should dictate lighting requirements. For instance a Blue Tipped Acropora must have MH(usually 400watts) lighting to maintain peak color. In a tank with PC or VHO it...
