I'm new to all of this. What does it mean to cycle your tank? How do you do it? What it mean when people say "live" rock and "live" sand?

I'm planning on setting up a 55 gallon aquarium. I've had freshwater fish for several years, but this will be my first plunge in to salt water. I already have the tank (55 long), cover, lights (regular freshwater), heater, and under gravel filter and air pump. I know I'll need a new filter...
