Live rock directly from the ocean? Can I use

if it's been out of water for any amount of time you should experience some die off which would start your cycle. depending on where you got it from you may encounter some pests but i'm sure it will be fine to use provided it wasn't in a highly polluted area... any pictures?

    Removing DSB

drain off and save enough water to put all your fish, invertebrates, and rock in and then pull everything out. have some freshly mixed saltwater on hand and take each rock and shake off as much silt and debris as you can in a bucket or two of the old water and then move it into the new...

help my condi is not looking good

you can buy carbon at your lfs or online. you wanna go with a reputable brand because some of the cheaper stuff has been known to leach phosphates into your water. black diamond is good and fairly popular, i use kent. you want to run it in a high flow area, i run carbon in my sump. i don't...

    lighting ?

they'd be ok in a fowlr tank but if you intend to get corals you should probably get rid of them. take them back for store credit and get some peppermints, a skunk cleaner, or a blood red fire shrimp.

it's possible you may loose your anemone. in my opinion it would be best to give it some time before you purchase another one. definitely look into upgrading your lighting. anemone's aren't the easiest things to keep alive, even the cheap ones :D

there's many options but i don't know the dimensions of your tank.... you're gonna have to do some reading, just use the search engine on this site. key words to look for are: metal halide, power compact or pc, VHO, and T5. those are the most popular kinds of lighting people use. from there...

    orange tail damsel question

nah they're ok as long as everyone else in the tank is bigger than them.... i've got a gold tail that i've had since i started my first tank in july of 02', he thinks he's tough but all the other fish know better. the funniest thing is that he is still exactly the same size he was when i bought...

i kept a condy under vho as well as power compact. i prefer vho's over pc's. i had 440W's of vho on my 55 and the condy did very well. i also had a pair of gold striped maroons hosting it so that also helped. what are the dimensions of your tank? what's your budget? :D

    Needs reassurance about Emerald Crab...

i've had several emerald crabs and i've never seen them turn completely white, but i guess it might be molting. can you take a picture of it? your ph is a little on the low side, is that at the end of your lighting schedule?
