    filter or skimmer?

I have an existing tank with live rock and corals that I am going to move to another tank and keep only fish and maybe an anemone. Should I leave the skimmer on OR I was thinking about buying a magnum 350 deluxe filter system. What is the better way to go. Thanks for your advice.

    Lighting for 75 with sps

Thanks for the advice! Are 2 110W VHO super actinic enough with 2 halide bulbs or should there be more actinic?

    Lighting for 75 with sps

I would like to have sps and possibly clams in a 75 gallon (48x18x20). I was thinking of possibly buying one 250W 10K MH with 2 110W super actinic vho and 2 110W daylight vho. Or should I forget the MH and just buy more vho. Electronic MH ballasts are expensive and that is why I am only...

    Butterfly compatibility

Are butterflies such as the raccoon and the auriga compatible with any tangs and/or angels, or do they need to be smaller peaceful fish? Thanks

    Water polishing

I would like to purchase a filter for water polishing. I've seen some great tanks at the LFS that are crystal clear and have large eheim canister filters on them. I would be using it for a future tank. Probably a 120gal. FOWLR and LS with overflows. What would be a good filter for water...

Problem with button polyps & shrooms

The ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and calcium were tests that were all ran and everything was fine. Although I do feel my seachem calcium test kit is quite inaccurate. The nitrates were quite low (10 ppm or lower). My alk was average. And my flame angel has yet to pick at them. This is why I...

Problem with button polyps & shrooms

For the past several weeks, my purple shrooms have not been opening and my button polyps have been opening only about half way. I ran some tests last night and everything is at a good level. Salinity is about 1.023-1.024. The flame angel, percs, and gramma are as perfect as they have been and...

    Clarification on torch coral

I have a torch in my 38 gal. It receives a medium current and it sits mid-level in the tank under 96W of 50/50 pc. It is very happy. I will add DT's to the water every now and then, but I do not directly feed it.

    LS from Saltwaterfish.com

There are a ton of worms and there are some other bugs that I can see. There's probably more that I haven't seen. I did however, have a little cycle when I added th sand into the tank.

    LS from Saltwaterfish.com

I bought some LS from swf and it has a ton of critters in it. It isn't a brilliant white, but it is a white sand and it is small grain sand.

    Yellowhead jawfish

They like to jump! I had a blue-spotted jawfish that committed suicide. So you are set with a covered tank. Just make sure that if you have any live rock that it is secure. Rocks will tunble. Good luck.

    just got my ricordia

What kind of lighting do you have your ricordia under? I have had an orange one for many months and it has never opened up fully. I also just received some green ones from swf and they have not opened up either. Do ricordia open up fully when they are splitting or not? Thanks if anyone can help.

    SWF Live Sand

I ordered some from SWF and I can see all of the worms crawling through the sand in the front of the tank, against the glass.

    Any electricians?

If you do the math, theoretically you will have 100 mA going to each of the led's. This is not good. I'm surprised they have not burned up yet. You will have to put a current divider into the circuit. That is, a parallel resistor combination to achieve the 20-30 mA. You just have to find...

Moving tank with LS in it?

I will be moving in one month and I was wondering if I should take the LS out of the tank or leave it in when moving the tank? It is 40 lbs. of LS in a 38 gallon tank. I believe I have read other places that stirring up the sand bed could cause an ammonia spike, but I am not 100% sure. Any...

    Danger!

To kind of answer the question on which ones are toxic... According to Borneman's Corals book, "All species of Palythoa, and most related zoanthids including Protopalythoa species, produce a chemical called palytoxin..." Hope this helps.
