Who has experience with the Green Spotted Puffer in a marine setup

I have one in mine and he is just awesome! I have a reef setup with multiple damsels, two columbian sharks and a small male bamboo shark. i have no compatibility issues and everyone is thriving. I got my GSP when he was about and inch long and has probably double in the past 3 or so months since...

    shark/semi reef

I beg to differ with all of the inputs, to some extent. I actually have a 150 that is set up exactly the way you are talking about. I have half the tank set up as reef with softies, mushrooms, zoos, etc and the other half with no decor for swimming room. The tank actually started off years ago...

    too much water turn over???

...and as far as flow is concerned, I know more is better, but I only have about 1200-1300 gph on my 125 and i've never had a problem. I tried to replace my csl pump with a 1250 gph little giant and all it did was blow my sand and corals all over the tank. I am a firm beliver in moderate flow...

    too much water turn over???

The only thing that ever worked for me was a fuge. I actually turned the sump from my wet/dry into a small fuge hoping for a bit of an impact and it totally worked. My nitrates are now at a stable zero reading and have been for about a year. I can explan what I did with my sump if it is...

    Are Vho's better than PC's?

I agree on that completely. And if you want a true day/night cycle, get two ballasts and put the actinincs on one and the 50/50's on the other. Also, get you some moonlights. I got mine off **** that auction site ****. There are an unbelievable variety out there. The one I got has 5 blue led's...

Sounds you went a similar route as I did Jedi. I feel your pain.

I going to do it the right way!(shark question)

Or maybe a 45 gallon with a 72x24x24 footprint? Water volume and footprint are equally relevant and not many home aquarists have the room or true interest to make the investment need to responsibly house a shark. I am guilty and only wish to preserve the shark, not the irresponsible behaviour of...

I going to do it the right way!(shark question)

125:72X18X22. 150: 72X18X28. 180:72X24X24. I am just stating the obvious. Going by your logic, i'd be no different with a 125 or 150. Or even a 75 with the same footprint. Would a shark be happier in a 180 or in the ocean. I learned from my mistake and I think no one else here does. Sharks...

I going to do it the right way!(shark question)

Why is it that everyone has this idea that a 30 gallon difference is going to make the shark any happier? No matter what size tank a shark should be in, people are going to do what they want and they will be flamed. Advice, if you are a newbie and you refuse to take the advice of others, just...

    Cooling fan solution

Bang, I have to disagree with you. The temps that beckzilla showed with his new setup are still plenty high for evaporation. Dropping the temp from 115 to 95 can only be an improvement. If the tank is in an open room with no walls near it, the 2 fans blowing in method would work fine as long as...

    Are Vho's better than PC's?

My canopy was built using an Icecap 660 ballast with (3) 6' bulbs. Icecap recommends a max of 16 feet on a 660, but 18' works fine. This way, it is more cost effective if I chose to add mh in the future and remove 1 vho bulb instead of buying 2 ballasts then getting rid of one when I go mh.

...and in the future, you can always retrofit mh into your canopy.

    Are Vho's better than PC's?

Hey alison. About 2 months ago I switched from pc to vho and I will tell you, vho blows pc away no doubt. Granted I have about 50% more wattage now, but the colors and the way my corals have reacted to the light is amazing. I had pc fitures sitting on top of my tank and glass canopies and...

    First Livestock Post.

Hey obarrera, I have proof that you are wrong. I have a mated pair of Gold Striped Maroon clowns that have been hosting my condy for almost a year. They love it, and judging by the way the condy looks, it loves it also. Poop_heaD, I will e-mail you in a bit.

Why the LOL? I don't think that there are many anemones as beautiful as a condy. I've even had the urge to set up a tank full of condys and clowns. Good luck with the tank.

    LPS Questions

I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem, but check it out. I have or have had an assortment of LPS coral in my tank and i've come to a conclusion. The only LPS that I have had good luck with are ones with a very stony, dense base. Such as frogspawn, hammer, brains and candy canes. I have...
