All my resources (books and the internet) state the a reef tank should have 1.5 to 2 pounds of live rock per gallon. I just wanted to know the reason. Is it just for looks? Or is there a scientific reason. Just for clarity, I know the benefits of live rock. I want to know how that ratio was...

I started my tank on November 07, 2002. It's been a lot of fun and too much money. I just wanted to show off a little bit. I'll start off with some progress pics. Here's my tank on 12/24/02 a little over a month old. I started with just 9 lbs of live rock.
