    Refuge for 42 hex.

I'm looking for ideas for setting up a refuge under my 42 hex. The door of the stand has about a 11" opening. I guess this refuge would have to be tall and thin. Any ideas would be very much appreciated

Will the regular brown Hermit Crabs eat and take care of my hair algae blum cause by my new lights. My LFS only has the brown hermits. All readings on the water are fine. I just didn't adjust my tank to the new lights slow enough. Thanks

    Zoanthid problem...

I scraped off the patch of white fungus and made a large enough bowl to dip the entire rock. The dip was 5% iodine (Tech 1) and swished it in this dip for 5-8 minutes then I did a clean dip of fresh tank water. This morning when the tank lights came on 80% of the zoanthids are open and the rest...

    Zoanthid problem...

Purple, white with a bright yellow dot. I'm really hoping the same. 1/2 of the rock looks totaly healthy, open amd big. The other half are trying to open and it has this dead white slime spot that I scraped off last night. I'm grafting some on a big piece of tunga tonight for sure.

    Zoanthid problem...

Thanks for the info.....just wanted to get another opinion. Have you ever seen zoos die and just stay in the curled up form, like they do at night? I'm thinking they ether would die and melt off the rock or open and grow. What do you think? I've had zoos for years and have a large collection of...

I noticed that their was a patch of melting zoos on it but it was a excellent price and I thought I could just srape off the dying spot and it would be ok. Nice Zoos......My collection of Zoos grow like weeds just by regular water changes and excellent light. I've been starting new colonies on tonga rock. They look excellent on tonga.

    What additives do you use?

I just change 4 gallons of water a week (in my 42 hex) with fresh RO/DI water and fresh salt. I drain and fill at the same time using small tubing so nothing is disturbed. I believe the tank gets everything it needs and my corals really have taken off after I started doing this. Nothing else is...

    Crushed Oyster Shell....

A friend of mine who just happens to work at a LFS told me that "crushed oyster shell" that you can buy in 50lb. bags makes a excellent bottom for a reef tank. I am setting up my third tank (80 gallon reef) and another friend is setting up a (120 gallon reef). He currently is running a 300...
