    MIAs

I purchased two neon gobies on Monday. They share a 45 gallon bowfront with a small yellow tang (please no tang police...plan to upgrade tank), two percs, a small 4-striped damsel, and a sand sifting star. I have a 4-6 inch sandbed. Tuesday evening one of the gobies was MIA. I checked...

    Sandsifting Star Question

What do sandsifting stars eat? I would like to get one, but am concerned that there may not be enough "stuff" in my sandbed to provide good nutrition. Would I supplement this with krill or seaweed? Thanks Brock

    Rock Question

Is there any reason that I can't grab a few nice sized rocks from the back of my house and put it in my saltwater tank. Obviously, I would stay away from rocks that would dissolve - sandstone and limestone. Has anyone else done this? Thanks Brock

    Starfish Won't Eat

My green brittle star will not eat. He has been like this for a couple of weeks. He does not move around and will not eat algae or krill (which he has eaten before). His arms are deteriorating to the point where the tips have fallen off. What should I do? Any Suggestions? Thanks Brock

    Can my Cycle be Complete?

I converted my CC to a DSB about a week ago. I also added 5-6 Krill at that point to cycle the tank. I tested the water last night and had zero amonia and nitrites. The krill is looking rather funky, so I'm sure there has been some sort of reaction. Is it possible that my tank could have...

    QT with no substrate-?

I have a question about quarantine tanks. I've already read the FAQs. Should a QT have sand or CC? If there is no substrate, will that mean the tank cannot cycle, condeming you to do partial water changes every day?? In other words, doesn't the bacteria need to exist on the substrate...

Yet another DSB Question - Concerning Livestock

In a very short amount of time, I plan on making the switch to a DSB, from CC. My question is...will the impending sandstorm hurt my fish, or should I transfer them to my small 10 gallon, until the dust settles? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh- I will be using Southdown, and a top...

    Temperature for Reef Tank

I'm going to be shortly changing my substrate from CC to a DSB. I will also be adding some LR. Currently, my tank is around 75-76 degrees. Are the temperature requirements different for reef tanks? Perhaps this is a stupid question? Thanks Brock

    LS from Saltwaterfish.com

Does anyone have any information about the live sand offered on this website. I'm interested in purchasing LS, but am unsure if this sand is any better than that found at my LFS. Thanks Brock

LS from Saltwaterfish.com Information - Please

Has anyone purchased LS from this site? Is it recommended? Or should I just buy the stuff in the LFS? I see very little information about the sand that is sold on this site. How long has the sand that I purchase here been out of the ocean? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Brock

Amount of Aragonite vs Live Sand?

I am now planning on converting my CC 46 Gal tank to a DSB. I believe I will need approx 110 lbs of sand to have at least 4". How much live sand is needed, just enough to cover the surface, or do I need a deeper layer of live sand? Thanks Brock

    Southdown Sand Alternatives

Does anyone know of any alternatives to Southdown sand. It would seem that no Home Depots in Central Ohio have even heard of this type of sand. I really don't want to pay the price of the local fish stores. Thanks Brock

SOS - Nitrate Levels and Sick Damsel

I'm new to the boards here, and also marine aquariums, as you will soon be able to tell. Here is my situation: After being told by my aquarium supply store that my aquarium was probably cycled (<1 week after setup), I decided to add fish. The nitrate levels have skyrocketed and continue to be...
