    Help with finishing diy stand.

You may also want to look for some molding at Rockler.com. They have a pretty good selection and sell most styles in oak. Personally, I would glue the molding on instead of nailing it, but that is just my opinion.

    Help with finishing diy stand.

The plywood is likely red oak and the molding may be white oak. In my experience, you will get some color variation between the two. If you use pine molding you will definitely have a variation. I would try some stain on some scrap pieces of the plywood and molding to see if the color...

    Attention! Structural engineers!! Aquarium stands!

Jager, I would shop around for sheets of plywood. Depending on what area of the country you live in, you can often find full-scale lumber yards that will sell retail. If you are up for it, you could also try to veneer birch plywood, which is only about $30 per sheet at HD or Lowes. Regarding...

Question for the DIY tank builders

Thanks for all of the advice. Does anyone have plans or diagrams on how to build a tank with a built in corner overflow? I assume that this portion can be added after the initial construction. Question for the DIY tank builders

Thanks for the help guys. Bronco, I think I have decided to try acrylic and any help you could offer would be great. I have read many of the posts by all of you addressing the issues of acrylic thickness and what number of Weld On to use, but as to construction and design, I am lost. I am more...

Question for the DIY tank builders

I have a few questions for all of you DIY tank builders. For those of you that build the plywood with glass or acrylic front tanks (especially Novice 150), has anyone tried using acrylic as a liner in the plywood tank. Meaning more for the purpose of sealing as opposed to strength. Is the...

    Just getting started.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am not sure if this will affect anyone’s advice, but the under tank space is about two to three times that of the tank, so space should not be a problem. The tank will essentially be a built in and can have direct access to a water line (w D/I or R/0) and a...

    Just getting started.

I have been reading this forum for the last several months and have found it to be very helpful. I recently registered so I could ask some questions of those who know. I recently moved and had to tear down my 55g freshwater and would like to try my first saltwater. I have read two or three...
