1 week until the big move!

I have one more week until I move into my apartment that my fiancee and I have rented. I will be moving the 75gal tank. I have decided I will put 80% of the water in 5gal zepherhills jugs, the LR in 5 gal buckets with the inverts, the damsels are making a trip to the LFS where they will reside from then on. I will recruit lots of strong guys because I am not taking the sand out. (I was told to try and not disrupt the sand bed.) Anyways if anyone has any suggestions on what else to do to avoid problems ie. spikes and death let me know.
Thanks,
Saltyj

The one thing that I would suggest is when moving the containers with the lr and inverts in it be care that the rock does not shift and crush anyone( I lost a damsel this way when I upgraded my tank and did not even move the container out of the room).

SaltyJ, keep us posted on how the moving goes. I hve to move my 75 to another part of my house this summer and I also want to keep the sand undisturbed. Let me know how many guys you use and how hard it is, goodluck!

No prob. Jeo I will try and take pictures as well of the break down and reset up.
CB good advice I will put the inverts in a seperate bucket. Also does anyone know if I need to "dig up" my nassarius snails and my horshoe crab or will they survive the move? The whole move and reset up should not excede 3 hrs. Just moving a couple of miles away.

We left the nassarius snails in the sand in the old tank with about 1 inch of water above the sandbed while we set up the new tank took about 3 hrs and all survived.. But I do not know about the horseshoe crab.

I'm sure you know this already but get as many guys on that tank to move it as you can. It can actually flex and twist which I'm sure you know would not be a good thing. Good luck with the tank and your move.

Yeah, be careful...it's going to be heavier than you expect. When I added my 2nd 50 I needed to lift my 50 gal reef about 2 inches vertically and 2 feet horizontally (from one stand onto another stand). I removed almost all the water and most of the rock. My boyfriend and I did it together and it was terrifying. I truly could not believe how heavy that thing was with just sand, a bit of water and a bit of rock. So be prepared for a really heavy tank!

"the LR in 5 gal buckets with the inverts"
no! not during the move, the lr may hurt the inverts if it falls over. try to use two diff buckets if possible
good luck
