hey everybody...listen, i set up a ten gallon tank to be used as a q-tank or even a hospital tank i set it up and let it cycle with a couple of small pieces of LR and a percula clown (a free fry) anywho last week I bought two mature percs and placed them in the 10 gal the 3 fish seem to really get along, are eating well and it looks cool...so my question....do you think the tank is too small for 3 fish if I kept it a percula only tank? thanks rick

Like anything else, keep checking the water parameters. In the 10, the water parameters can spike more quickly. I've successfully kept 2 tomatoe clowns in a 10 gal with a penguin 110 for about a year. I had to keep doing water changes (weekly) and tested the water regularly (every 2 weeks-I was paranoid but determined). The only detriment I found was the same as the large tank (nitrates were alittle high). I did use buffers. Hope this helps.

Well, don't get too comfortable with the 3-some arrangement, as clowns are made to pair, and 3 is a crowd.
Clownfish pair, male / female, and everyone else in this species needs to find there own "fishing hole"...so to speak; an impossibility in a 10 gal tank!!
The pairing, if it hasn't happened already, will soon happen, and so will the picking on the odd man out, thus, start contemplating on finding a new place for the 3rd clownfish. Definately, do not add anymore clowns [or fish, for that matter]. You said this is a quarentine tank, thus it shouldn't be overloaded.
Also, with LR, this tank cannot be a hospital tank where you will actually treat fish...as you cannot medicate or hyposalinate [LOL...my new word] a tank with LR or any inverts in it.

I got a emperor 220 as a gift ...using it in the tank...kind of big but, it is filtering massive amounts of water per hour...lot of current though...rick

wow thanks for all the posts...dont think ive ever had so many replies...I may get another tank so I can have the 10gal hosp tank i wanted...I really want a perc fish only tank...
In everyones opinion...what is the smallest size tank needed to easily maintain acceptable water parameters?
I have a 50gal reef now.......rick

I've read about alot of people keeping 10's. It can't be easy, but I think I might try it too. That would be perfect on top of my T.V. STEVE

My lfs has a 10 gal eclipse with ls, lots of live rock, 1 blue damsel, 1 bicolor blenny, 1 coral banded shrimp, several mushroom corals and some button anemones. This tank has been going for 2 years and they don't believe in water changes. Go Figure

I have a 6 gl eclipse tank, (have had two -three fish, SMALL in at all times) The only problem I ever had was that if I didn't clean the water a cetain way that it would get really cloudy and I would have to start over. (I know you guys all think that it is bad, but I have never lost a fish cycling and I take all water out quite often, but not as much lately as I used to.)

I'm glad to here so many people are having success with 10g I started one not too long ago and the only problem I've had so far is alkalinity but using buffers now to fix it. I have 10pounds of live sand 18 pounds of figi and for fish an percula ,jap wrasse ,cleaner wrasse, and a yellow tail damsel good things do come in small packages!

I have a 55 display, and a 15 high little tank. I figure if you can do it .. then do it. I have had no problems with the smaller tank, I just check it often, go easy, provide good filtration, some LR, and realize that it is a home for 2 very small perculas. All it is and all it will be.

Well I just took out the biggest perc and reaclimated him to the big tank I guess he'll be the replacement for the lost lemonpeel and take the 10 gal down to 2 fish a pair of perculas..that third wheel fish was beginning to bug me.
thanks for all the replies here
