Hi,
Have you considered LEDs? I'm using them as my main light source for my 40 gallon reef and I cannot recommend them enough :)
Check out the Panorama strips by Ecoexotic. They are only $100 each and I think 1 12 inch combo (meaning white and blue dots) would provide all the light you need on your tank. I'm using 2 of them on m 40 gallon and all of my coral under them are very happy. FYI at the moment my tank contains Frogspawn, several types of Button Polyps, Pulsing Xenia, severals colors worth of Mushroom, Duncan Coral, and an Orange Digitata (thats my SPS) and they are all fully opened and growing.
Since your tank is 10 gallons, I think if you get 1 combo Panorama strip and 1 blue/magenta Stunner strip (to make the your corals even more glowy) that will only run you about $150, plus you won't have to worry about ever replacing bulbs and no heat comes from the lights... so no need to get a chiller either.
I've been thinking about even getting a clam and seeing how it will do under these lights. The owner of my favorite LFS says that the Panoramas he installed for me will provide enough lighting for the clam's to thrive. When I come back from my vacation I will get a clam and see if thats true. If the clam is happy under just 2 of these LED strips then there will be no question how awesome these lights are!
