10 gallon suggestions, comments

I have decided to just go with a ten gallon instead of buying the nano cube deluxe. So far I have a 3" dsb, a whisper power filter ten, a bio-wheel 125, a small 75 watt heater, planning on live rock(about 20 pounds), and a sattelite 20" PC with 40 watts. Does this sound like a good setup, and is this enough water flow? Should I get some Calcium and KH test strips? I have also heard that you do not really need additives, that regular 20% water changs and enough live rock will make up for it. Is this true? Also what brand food would you reccommend? Is marine snow alright? Any comments or suggestions welcome. Oh yeah, my tank has cycled for about 6 weeks now and my readings are near perfect. I had a diatom bloom about 2 weeks ago, and there is still a little algae left. How long will it take for this to go away? TIA

Good choice going with a standard 10, my compliments to you.
Go out and buy yourself a powerhead to agitate the water--two AC 201's work well in my 10g. They are both on the back side of the tank, pointed directly at each other--both regulated to 3/4 power. Do your 10% weekly water changes and feed sparingly. Test for Calcium and KH before you start adding Calcium or Alkalinity. Take it slow and you should be fine.
BTW, take it slow means try not to rush out and buy that piece of acropora your LFS tells you you'll have no problem taking care of.

Well, you certainly want to agitate the water more than what a HOB filter will produce. I started out with one power head, and then put in the second so I could concentrate its efforts at the water line--good gas exchange.
