I just found a guy that is sellin a few 1000 watt PC's and i didn't know if that was too much wattage for an 80 gallon tank, or a 55 gallon tank. Also is this wattage regular for a PC, or is it just a plant grow light? From this, how high should i install these lights? Need lots of help and any suggestions would do :D
Thanks guys :D

My GOD that is alot of wattage. Over the 80 gallon that is more than 10 watts per gallon,I do think it is TOOOO much light. It would be OK over a 150 or bigger, but way overkill on anything smaller. JMO.

Misty: I think the lights you are talking about are for plants only. I hve a 1000 Watt in my basement to overwinter the tropical plants. These are not good for aquariums - they are the wrong light spectrum.

That brings to mind a couple of questions. How many bulbs make up this 1000 watts?? What are these bulbs(k value)???

those lights sound mighty funny. they don't sound like power compacts. 260 watts of pc's it like having 500 watts vho's or 2 100 watt mh. :D

I have two light fixtures; each has one 1,000 watt bulb (made especially for greenhouse growers). They tend to shift towards the red and yellow light spectrum as this is what is needed to get the flowers to bloom in the spring. I'd have to dig out the literature to get more specific than that. I do know that each one of the bulbs cost around 115.00 to replace and also that they don't recommend them for aquarium use. They are not power compacts, and the ballast box they hook into weighs about 15 pounds and is about 12" x 9" x 6". I also know that it cost around 32.00/month on the electric bill to run each light.
