kelvin is only a matter of color and growth.. the lower the kelvins uch as 10K the whiter the light is the higher the kelvin such as 20K the more "blue" is appears... 10K have faster growth and more PAR than 20K as well

ar e we talking flourescent or metal halide or what? you will most likely need an actinic supplement to offset the white/yellow color of the 10k

I have a 48 in with acntics,and two 250 halides with the 10000k bulbs..I love the light but having alot of trouble with red alge.really wounding if 14000k or 20000k would help with the red alge.I keep them off more then on with the alge problem.

the red algae can only be caused if your bulbs are old.. other than that red algae(cyano) is caused by a few things.
1. i think the biggest is FLOW,, if there are dead spots with no flow you will get cyanco
2. if your lights are more than 10months to a year old,, you will get cyano..
3. if you are over feeding .. you will get cyano(especially flake food)
4. if you dont use RODI water you will get cyano... mostly because of phosphates in the water
some of these will happen some of these dont.. just try finding which is the causing factor... but i can tell you that it isnt the Kelvin int he bulbs..
