10g nano?

Now that I've been researching all day on saltwater aquariums, I'm leaning towards a 10-12g aquarium. I have to keep it small so it will fit in my dorm room. I'm thinking a royal gramma, perc clownfish, a 4 stripe damsel since they seem to be less agressive than the 3 stripe, and most likely a cleaner shrimp. I'm thinking it'll be a reef tank. Any suggestions on what type of coral and whatnot to put in, and also any other fish that would work or if the fish I am thinking of won't work?

In a 10 or12 gallon you can't have more than 2 SMALL fish. Clowns would be fine in there. If you get PC lights, you could keep a variety of soft corals. No anemones....they require mature tanks with just about pristine water conditions and preferably MH lights.

So 3 small fish won't even fit in a 10g? Two fish isn't a whole lot.. and what about the cleaner shrimp? Would there be enough room?

Smaller tanks are very difficult to maintain good water parameters. If you overstock, you'll exceed its bio-load and really have problems. Sorry no more than 2.
Peppermint shrimp would be fine...along with hermits and snails you'll be very entertained.

12 pounds live rock
4 hermits
5 snails
1 cleaner shrimp
2 clown fish
1 royal gramma
1 feather duster
Blue Star polyp
red/green brain
sea cucumber
And everything is just fine.

I bought a 12 gallon Nano Cube on the afternoon of Oct 27th. I also bought enough saltwater already mixed from the fish store. Set everything up; next day bought 9 pounds of live coral. I want everything to be right and great and I have a few questions. I also feel like I am irritating the fish store. All is fine (temp, salinity) but what are some opinions as how long to wait to add fish or invertebrates? I am one of those types that wants everything now, but I also will wait as long as I have to. Some water has evaporated so I am planning on going to the store to buy some more RO water. How long does the "cycle" usually take?
The above is from a post by bmausti dated 10/31/04...seems he is a relatively new member with a relatively new tank. it may indeed be off to a great start...but I'd be cautious about following the same process he has. Lots of problems can develop real quick.Any system needs time to properly cycle and establish before a heavy bio-load is placed on it. Your initial post seems logical to me and well thought out...just try not to rush things and try to avoid over loading the system with too many fish too quick.
On another note....flames are not tolerated and will result in threads being closed or deleted. The post in question may be questionable...but it is an opinion and we all can provide opinions if we decide to. I agree that the info may be inappropiate...and most experienced hobbyists can see that easy enough. But we can counter balance such advice and/or opinions in better ways than flames and personal attacks.For those reasons this thread is now closed.
ivy2dw7...sounds to me like you are approaching your system in a thoughful and logical manner....welcome to our forums and please don't take the closing of your thread personal. By all means continue to ask questions and best of luck to you...keep us posted on your progress.
