I am buying new MH fixtures. The site has 10 k and 14k. I don't know which to get. Is it just a difference in color output, or will it effect my coral growth?
Thanks

depending on the bulbs ur talking about..color and growth will be different..10k is yellowish but great growth..14k is whitish with OK growth...so color and growth are effected..

Depends on the bulbs you get..... that is a general rule of thumb though with growth. Some people will argue though that they get awesome growth out of 20k bulbs too.
To see a color difference:

Honestly I can't tell the difference in growth rates between stock 10k bulbs and my phoenix 14k's.
when i switch to the phoenix 14ks from the stock current usa 10k..growth slowed enough that it was noticable.. my corals are still growing at a nice rate..not much of a difference but noticable...

Okay, well I have been reading these replies and thanks very much. I did end up ordering MH fixtures. They are Hamilton fixtures and they are 14k. I don't know if I'll like them but we'll see. I think I will get great growth, as they are 250 watt fixtures and I got two. I think I may combine it with some little actinics to get some more growth and make the color pop. Thanks so much for the great responses and all the info and pictures. I'll post some pictures of my new lights when they come tomorrow :)
Thanks again!!
