I read that everybody loves these bulbs, so count me in! I love them also!
My 10K's were only about 4 months old, I wasn't happy with the color at all, so I upgraded. I get a lot more fluorescence outa the corals and the room has a nicer ambient light.
So here's my pics.

If you like them, next time try the Radium 20k, about the same look with a higher PAR, and oh yeah price too.

I have the 2 overflows, but neither is a hang on the back.
Spanko...NOW you tell me.

I'll look into that for NEXT YEAR when I change them out, lol

Haha...
I do remember seeing those pics before. I also like the second set of pics. I wonder if mine will get whiter or bluer after 100 hours...

Guess I gotta remember to take another pic in a couple weeks.

Tizzo. I am sure it will come into it's own and be superior but I actually like the 10k better in the above pics. Just seems more crisp. A little washed but not near what most 10k stand alone show.
Please do take more pics in a few weeks

they will get a little whiter as they burn in. I just put a set of them on my tank acouple of weeks ago.

yeah i posted my excitement with phoenix a few days ago...i love these light those radiums may be a little too blue for me but they look pretty sharp...i may even change to phoenix 150s on my frag tank in a few weeks...but as soon as i put them on the DT things that did not open or seemed to be struggling with the SPS lights i had opened almost IMMEDIATELY...needless to say i am completely ecstatic

spanko ive read about your change but what are you basing that on? the colors look great on both
sanjay doesnt have the phoenix bulbs on his site in 150 w de to compare with 20k radium 150w de.
in other forums peoples comments seem to say that the phoenix will have better par thus better growth.

in an article from advanced aquarist mag by Sanjay it seems to me that the PPFD for the Radium 150W DE 20k rated higher than the tested 14k and any of the other 20k bulbs by other manufacturers. Seems it was somewhere around 47 PPFD.
Note this is only talking about 20k bulbs and the tested 14k bulb. Not all manufacturers of all bulbs were in the testing, and lower K bulbs in the 10k and lower range had higher PPFD.
Acn't find the article right now but will keep looking. It is one that I did not bookmark and probably should have.

According to Sanjays Reef lighting calc, with 250W DE the Phoenox 14k's beat 'em.
250w DE Pheonix 14K's 90 ppfd
250w Se Radium 20k's 66ppfd

There is a big difference between 150w and 250w with the Phoenix. The 250 is even a different color. I have both.
I am in process of setting up a 40 frag tank. For lighting, I went with 1-175w Iwaki 15K SE and 2-36" VHO actinic. It's not done yet, but I'm told the Iwaki bulb has more PAR than most 250w SE bulbs.

Thanks spanko. Theres so much variation with each bulb when you factor in the ballasts. It definitely seems like the 20k Radium is the best 20K 150w bulb. Still dont know if I want to just try the phoenix or the radium. Sanjay doesnt have the 14k phoenix in 150w on his site.
I'd also like to look at PAR values for reeflux bulbs.

The 175w Iwasaki is supposed to be sick! Its like a freak how the one bulb is so much better than any other 175w bulb.

Using the Icecap electronic as the ballast for reference porpouses. According to Sanjays site, the 15k iwasaki IS the top of the 175. As well as better par than most of the 250's.
Including the Radium 20K Se But not the Pheonix 14K DE.
Crazy.

I need better reflectors and DE bulbs instead of SE.

A person could go bonkers with all of this. I wonder if the difference we see in the testing really makes that much diff to the coral, or is it all just a fig newton of our imaginations. Something for Sanjay to do with his time but really means little in the scheme of things.

I agree, the 250w Pheonix are nice. I use them in my outer orbit fixture. But the 90 ppfd is without the glass shield. It's 73ppfd with the glass sheild. The Iwasaki 175 SE 15K is 86ppfd. Less electric, less heat, better light.

I just plugged in our 2x400W Radium 20k's and ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! With the little exception that the left side of the tank is different color than right (wrong bulb color sent to me... planta instead of blue).
