125 drill/plumb question

Hey,
I was going to get my 125 drilled but had some questions.
The LFS has a set up where they drilled 2 holes in the rear of a tank. They put in bulkheads with strainers and that runs to the sump. The holes are about 1 inch from the top off the water level, they say that this way if there is a power failure the most water that can drain out is the 1 inch above the bulkheads. So in talking with them once I get my tank drilled all I will need to do is put in the bulkhead/strainers then run pvc lines to the sump. Then run pvc from the return pump back into the tank.
I guess I am looking for the proper way to drill/plumb a tank so I know where to get the holes drilled.
Thanks

Are you talking about closed loop or running into the sump? If it were me I would put 2x built in overflows in the back corner leading down to your sump. I wouldnt really drill any holes in the back of the tank just for the reason of back siphoning or the need for a very large sump like you said. I would go up and over the tank for the returns and use mod plumbing to drop into the tank you can put a small hole above the waterline to prevent back siphoning.
